About
La Gare restaurant is the follow-up to Brasserie La Gare, which ever since its establishment has served as the key representative of French cuisine in Prague. The restaurant underwent a complete reconstruction at the beginning of 2019, and now it is continuing in the direction where the brasserie once started. Despite a full renovation of the interior, the kitchen and the menu expansion, we strive to stick to our initial direction – fine dining and uncomplicated cuisine. Our chef Tomas Malisek has worked in several Top Prague Restaurants and with his leadership we make every day's steps to the best gastronomic experiences. Fancy glass of wine on a walk through Prague? Lunch with friends? Romantic dinner for two? We are prepared for it all in the new La Gare.

We ordered off the lunch menu. I had the rabbit kidneys and the mouflon. After reading the reviews I expected it to be good, however, it more than met my expectations. My wife was quite happy with hers too. The service couldn’t have been any better. Two starters, two mains, water and 3 very nice beers came to the equivalent of about €40. I would definitely recommend.

We found this restaurant purely by chance and what a lucky find - it has a wonderful ambience with extremely efficient and friendly waiting staff (thank you Sergei) and fantastic food. Each course was delicious and mouth-wateringly good, both to look at and to taste and what was impressive was the extremely efficient manager who was always present, helping the waiters and making sure every table was happy. Our experience at La Gare was so good that we booked again for the following evening and it was every bit as good as the previous night. Please do visit this lovely restaurant if you are in Prague, you will not be disappointed and we cannot wait to return.

Most amazing food I’ve ever had. The French onion soup is truly amazing, even better than the many I’ve had in Paris. The fillet mignon was the tastiest I’ve also ever had, such good quality meat, tender and juicy. I had with a truffle sauce which was delicious. The wine choice was great with a full explanation from the waiter. The waiters were lovely and the lady on the door meeting and greeting was so lovely. The restaurant is very funky with a great design. I would recommend you have to go to this restaurant whilst in Prague.

La gare is a great fancy place I really like but after second time experiencing complete incompetence and arrogance from the waiting staff I will choose another place for relaxing and fancy lunch/dinner. Girl who suppose to manage reservations and welcome guests was not on her place when we arrived. She also never bothered herself to open doors when we were leaving. Staff overall was very loud somewhere back by the bar and kitchen, discussing loudly some personal stuff and ruining nice and calm atmosphere in the restaurant. I will not be back to this place, but to management I recommend to make some customer service training and do a mystery shopping several times, to understand how they behave when nobody is watching. There is no point to describe food experience, because I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone because of low level of service.

Dear Serio88, thank you very much for your recommendation. We are so sorry about your experience. We wanna let you know it is not normal for our waiters to behalf like that. It is so sad to read this recommendation, when we know, how amazing our colleagues actually are. They are always trying to be nice, polite and kind to our guests. We promise we will talk with everyone here and we believe for the next time if you will give us another chance everything will be better how it should be! Sincerely, Team La Gare.

On a city break to Prague I came across this French restaurant. The food was great however the staff were awful. Our waiter purposely kept ignoring us even though he knew we were sat waiting. We waited 20 minutes for the dessert menu and when that didn’t come we walked to the front and requested to pay the bill. We mentioned to said waiter we had been waiting ages and were disgusted with the service, he just didn’t say anything and stood there- no apologies nothing. It made me think he did it on purpose - is it because we were British or was he racist? Not impressed and it ruined our experience unfortunately. Save your money and go somewhere else.

We happened in here for dinner while in Prague on a tour mainly because my husband wanted onion soup (which was delicious as well). On the waiter’s recommendation we tried the French cheese Alsatian Tarte. It was a delightful mix of crisp crust with gooey cheese done to perfection. Added to that was the great service and very reasonable prices. What started as a simple ‘let’s get dinner’ ended as a signature memory of our trip.

While staying at the hotel across the street, we decided to venture into La Gare on a whim on a Friday night. We did NOT have a reservation and they seated us anyway. I don't know how they did it because the place was full, but we are so glad they did! The menu offered lighter fare for me and a heartier selection for the hubby. Between us, we ordered multiple items to nibble on and sample - and while we certainly couldn't eat all of it - every bit of it was excellent! Between the two of us, we had the French Onion Soup, Tarte Flambee, Shrimp in a Chili Sauce, Beef Tallow Fries (OMG), and the Bread basket. There were 2 beers, 1 glass of fantastic wine, and a bottle of water. Total for all this after currency conversion? Less than $100 USD. I have seen the comments about bad service and I make the assumption that these reviews are from people who do not frequent French and/or European restaurants because the service we received was on par for the location. Did our meal take 3 hours? Yes. Is that what we expect in a French restaurant in Europe? Of Course! It's an experience, not just a meal!!! If you are in a hurry - tell the staff. Don't assume you will get rushed because you definitely will not.

Our favourite restaurants are french. Unfortunately, the only french thing about this restaurant is the name La Gare. The food was average (e.g. fish soup is a tomato soup with mussels). The wine was served as shots. The desserts were not fresh. However, the highlight of the visit was the service. I've never experienced that level of arrogancy. They keep forgetting to bring the ordered food & drinks. The bread came after we finished the food (we reminded them twice to bring bread). Different types of wine were poured into the same glass. After all, the waiter aggressively told us how much we should tip him and felt offended that we refused to give 10%. Outrageous! It's better to splash your money into the toilet than to spend it in La Gare. These types of restaurants should be forbidden.

This is a go-to spot in Prague. The service was wonderful and caring, the food just amazing (the meat was grilled perfectly as ordered) and the atmosphere is modern, stylish, and yet cozy. There is a big choice of wine. Our bottle was served at the right temperature. Make sure to check out the men's bathroom. The water sink is quite a sight to see. We will definitely come back on our next visit to Prague.

We came to this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend for a birthday dinner with expectations of something very unusual and tasty. Arriving at the restaurant, we saw a rather beautiful interior and we were given perhaps the worst menu that I have seen in my life. The whole menu is written on a very small cardboard, on which all the dishes are written almost entirely, and it is rather difficult to read (of course, there were no pictures). On the other hand, there were very interesting items on the menu that we wanted to try. Our choice fell on foie gras, beef tartare, duck breast with oranges and sturgeon. If there were no questions about the appetizers, then there were enough of them for the main dishes. The duck turned out to be just average, a little tough, but at the same time quite tasty. But the sturgeon turned out to be perhaps the worst of all time. It had a very strong taste of frozen fish and was quite firm. With all this, it seemed to be completely without salt and seemed raw inside (there was a feeling that the fish was immediately put from the freezer on a hot frying pan for 30 seconds, set a crust and served as it is). The waiter assured that the fish had not been frozen 10 times, but the taste of course spoke of the opposite (or the fish, for some reason, was not the first freshness). However, when reviewing the dish to the waiter, he immediately apologized and removed the sturgeon from the final check and offered dessert as an apology (which we did not take), by the way, many thanks to the waiter for this. In general, the dinner unfortunately disappointed, since everything turned out to be rather average and ordinary (and the sturgeon was completely inedible.)

My business host in Prague suggested considering Gare as a venue for my visiting clients from the U.S. and invited me for dinner there on March 23 to test out the venue. I found the atmosphere pleasant but the menu hardly provided any vegetarian options and the waiter (Jan K.) didn't offer any accommodation which is customary for restaurants of such caliber and he seemed disgruntled that I didn't want the pumpkin dish or a plain salad. Also, he seemed quite pushy throughout the night merely to run up the bill and at the end even switched to English while addressing my Czech speaking host, to openly ask for a good tip! I come from a culture of tipping in the U.S. but it is still considered discretionary based on the customer's satisfaction and not to be demanded. Furthermore, the menu prices seemed a bit steep in comparison to similar Prague restaurants that I have visited with about $7 for a bottle of plain water as an example, even if I was just the guest and not paying for the bill. In fairness to the management, I emailed my feedback to Mr. Barton and the management but received no response.

We started with their version of escargots. There was not any garlic in the butter, just mushrooms and onions. They were tasty but not what we had expected. I had the fish soup, which did not have a great variety of fish in it, but was very tasty anyhow. My wife had a mountain of grilled mussels (there was sufficient for two or three people). She enjoyed them very much. The restaurant is on the pricey side!

I had French onion soup which for the price I thought it was going to be a cup but it was a bowl, I shared it with my husband so I wouldn't get too full. I ordered the 1/2 chicken which was so delicious, and so much food!! My husband had a tenderloin which was done to perfection. The decor in this restaurant was very unique! We loved being able to watch the chef at the grill too!!!

Very disappointing. I ordered Duck with Orange sauce... An easy one for a French restaurant you'd think.. Horrible. Presliced and laid around the plate as if it was presented.. Joke. Veg was cold and smash potatoes I couldn't even eat. I ask for bottle of water, luk warm water with an odd taste is what I got. I challenge them if it was tap water, and suddenly he couldn't understand English. Save yer money.

I love French cafe food but this did not meet my expectations or the 5 star reviews. Service was slow. My wife had the French onion soup and it was somewhat bland. She ordered the mussels and the plate was huge -- after we were told by the waiter that it was not. I had the escargot and the duck a l'orange. Two of the escargot were empty and the duck was just average. I thought the price/value proposition was way out of whack.
