The food is very good but come for the beer! The semi dark Oldgott lager has been the staple here for centuries and is terrific. The seasonal blonde Alegott is excellent as well. If you ask your server, he may show you the brewery in...the back of the beer hall, which has been moved downstairs, and no longer open to the general public.More

This place has always been a reliable place for good Czech cuisine and beer. They accepted our last minute reservation for 28 people despite that fact that May weekend are usually packed and the following Sunday was Prague Marathon. We certainly had to wait a...bit longer, but this was absolutely understandable as this place hosts maybe 300 guests at a time. The food (soup, grilled chicken breast with krokettes and beef with cabbage and a rosehip sauce - delicious) was absolutely fine, the service did what they could and everybody was happy.More

Imagine a German beer hall with big mugs of beer and schnitzel and you might get an idea of this place. The place is a bit chaotic. But the food is good and not very expensive. I would return

U Medvidku is a must go pub for me to visit on any holiday I take to this fascinating city, its one of the oldest pubs in the city and dates from 1466. I love the look of this pub, interior is superb, very traditional,...arched ceilings ,pubby decor and furnishings throughout this multi roomed pub, brewing vats prominently on display and lots of seating options, it's just a great pub to unwind in. We were here on a Thursday evening, we luckily managed to grab the table, we ordered beers from Pilsner Urquell Brewery, these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling and with the distinctive foamy head so characteristic of the way Czech beer is poured, we chilled out and watched the Sparta Prague v Liverpool F.C match being played on the big screens while sipping our beers. A big fan of this most famous of Czech beers, golden, light and hoppy, bursting with taste and very easy to drink especially when served freezing cold as in this pub, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying a quality brew and sat with my twin brother, best beer companion in the world. We both really enjoyed our beers in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to here we had a great time . U Medvidku is easy to locate along Na Perstyne. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, open from 11.30pm. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.More

U Medvídků on Na Perštýně is an excellent brewery'restaurant'beerhall'hotel and is a very good place to visit in Staré Město. This is an excellent brewery and restaurant with bags of character and is housed in a really historic building. The history of U Medvídků date's from...1466 and has bag's of character.Throughout it's multi-roomed interior there are interesting fixtures and features and excellent seating options and it's a joy to visit. There's ground and a first floor seating area with a superb brewery located on the first floor. U Medvídků has a traditional white painted interior with arched ceiling and superb use of wood and it's a real joy to visit and we've visited here dozens of times over the year's as it's as traditional as it comes. On our visit to here we had a few of there beer's which were served in perfect condition and were really well priced. This is a superb place to visit be it for a few beer's or a meal and is easy to locate from the Národní Třída metro or trams stop it's a few minute's walk.(This is my second review of Pivovar U Medvídkŭ). I had visited the place as a kid with my parents and had a fond memory, so I proposed the place to the friends we were visiting Prague with on a recent trip. Personally I was disappointed. We were ordered to get off the table...we liked and seated in a place we didn't like. We noted the table we initially selected sat empty for the whole time we were there. The service is done mostly by men with very grumpy, intimidating looks and behavior. It feels like the place is run by some gangster mob and you're supposed to obey orders and not enjoying yourselves here. The food is bland and mediocre. Budvar beer is good! The location is convenient and the history of this place makes it even sadder this restaurant was taken over by a gang. Rick Steves has this place in the guide, but I would say - go to a different place instead. Go to U Fleku, go to any of the other hundreds of places around - Prague offers plenty of other restaurants to dine in.More

Came here to sample the experience of a very traditional Czech tavern, and sample the strangely named Sexgott (sex god) which supposedly has aphrodisiacal qualities. I didn't get any of that, but it was a truly delicious beer, with a thick, creamy head that was...almost as good as the beer itself. When discussing why we don't like beer head in the UK with my Czech friend, it was easy to tell him that no beer in the UK has a creamy head like this - it's more like drinking bubble bath. Anyway, a delicious beer and something I'd return to Prague for.More

This traditional old Czech pub and brewery was a convenient spot for a late dinner after watching a show at the nearby Blacklight theater. The crowd seemed to lean slightly more tourist than locals, but I could be wrong. Service was friendly overall, and the...ambience is crowded, loud, and well, its a pub! 125K/$5.25 Whipped Beer cheese with fried bread...I saw this on a Anthony Bourdain episode, and it did not disappoint! the creamy cheese was like spiced feta cheese, the toasted breads were a perfect vessel to transport the tasty cheese into my mouth. 260K/$11 Roast Beef in Rosehips sauce, with potato croquettes...this sounded amazing on paper! But it was just okay, as an American I like my beef medium and tender. This beef was more well done and dry, but the creamy rose sauce was wonderful and did a pretty good job of masking the beef averageness. The potato croquettes crispy and airy, unique! 260K/$11 4 Beer sampler. This seemed like a good idea at first, but for Czech prices this was actually bit pricy. The beers seemed to be about a 200ml pour each. Being from San Diego, California where we have the best beer in the world, I found each of the four beers just kind average. It's much cheaper just to buy individual beers. Good place, not a great place. Come by if its convenient at the moment, like it was for me.More

Good beer and food, but beware the short pour and the manager who refuses to rectify it. I blame the manager, not the restaurant, as I had a good pour 2 days prior…good luck!

F**k me. This was AWSOME! The guy at the bar Istvan was an absolute darling. Just the way he said hello got people in the door. His banter was unmatched and the beer was the best we ever had. We ordered number 17 and 19...from the menu. My dad is a master chef and even he could only get me once to get emotional Over food. I nearly f**kin’ cried. We WILL return to prague not only because it’s the most beautyful city we have ever seen but the FOOOOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the service of course.More

This place is in all the list of Prague restaurant as the oldest and most traditional places in Prague. Service was great, they have a huge open courtyard in the summer with long tables and a very quick service. Beware not to get too drunk...there as beer rounds are done rather often :) food itself is very classic - I really enjoyed the entrées, but would recommend to skip main courses.More

Looks like a very traditional place to taste local cuisine and local beer. We had duck leg, pork schnitzel and pulled pork hamburger. The food was good and the beer ok. It was not very crowded so we were seated immediately. Nothing extraordinary after all...despite our expectations.More

Oo boy, it's been nearly 6 months since we ate there. I didn't write in my journal how we paid for it but I do seem to recall that we paid our bill with a credit card.
