Great Way to Try Local Fare

This is a must visit in Prague, especially if staying at the Hyatt. Walking distance from the hotel and the food was excellent. We wanted to try Czech specialties so ordered the Beef Goulash and the Beef Sirloin in cream sausage with cranberries - both were delicious. Save room for the Sweet Cheese Dumplings stuffed with blueberries, a great way to top off a dining experience. Our waiter’s recommendations of dishes really helped make a delightful dining experience.

We ate here on our first night in Prague and it didn’t disappoint! The bruschetta starter was very tasty and well presented. I had a chicken main which came with crushed potatoes and really enjoyed this. All the food was very fresh. My partner had the pesto fettuccine which looked delicious. The drinks were very well priced too with aperol costing a fraction of what it does in the UK. The beer was also very cheap. We would definitely return here.

We visited the restaurant right after the lockdown, so I don't think it was fully functioning yet. Many menu items were missing. Despite relatively high prices (even for Karlín), the food was not very well prepared, it could have been better. It appeared to have been made in a quite simple way. Large portions. Average service, without much friendliness, but standard in the city.

A dinner to forget!

I had dinner at The Gate restaurant with my girlfriend. When ordering, I informed the waitress that I have important allergies, including onions and garlic. I asked if the chicken nuggets contained these ingredients and she replied no, in an annoyed tone. I asked her to write it down on the order to make sure the kitchen knew. She replied in an annoyed tone, "I'm sure!" When the dishes arrived, I smelled a strong onion odor. I thought it was coming from my girlfriend's plate, but it was actually in mine! I called the waiter, who was very kind and attentive, and explained to him that allergies are serious and that I could end up in the hospital if I eat one of those ingredients. The waiter checked with the kitchen and found out that the chicken nuggets were actually marinated with garlic, and the potatoes were cooked in oil that contained onions. Needless to say, the waitress who had served me didn't show up for the rest of the dinner. We also ordered a grilled steak, which was of good quality, but one side of the meat on both steaks was black. This is a sign that the grill wasn't cleaned properly! The beer was drinkable, but half the glass was foam. The strudel was very good. Overall, the food is not bad, but the waitress who served us showed a total lack of attention and sensitivity to the allergies of customers. This is a very important aspect that should never be taken lightly. If you have allergies, I recommend that you be careful when ordering at The Gate restaurant. Pay attention to what the waitress tells you and, if in doubt, ask the waiter.

We were in the restaurant three evenings in a row. The food is great and the price is unbeatable. The burger is great and the drinks taste good too. We had an appetizer, two burgers, two large beers and then two more drinks, all for only about 1000 crowns. very recommendable.

Rude and arrogant behaviour

Horrible behaviour in customer service, since we decided not to leave a tip, the answer was that "next time you should go to Mcdonalds". P.S Normally I leave generous tip, however since they put us in a horrible table (There were a lot of better tables and put us in the corner in a very small table), we decided not to give a tip. P.S1 It is a place ONLY for locals. Even if we had a large bill, they didn't respect that and demanded with a rude and arrogant behaviour to leave a tip. We are definitely never going back. There are a lot of great restaurants around there.

Superb venue for a dinner outings

From the time we arrived in Prague our interest was to have a good Czech culinary experience. Down the same street of our hotel, we found this restaurant with in-house and alfresco dining. We were lucky to get a table outside as there was one vacant at that time. Roadside environment was very much with the old European scene with an elevated railway line passing almost next door with a vintage arch through which vehicles and trams were to passed through. Restaurant hosts at “Gate restaurant” were very friendly and caring. Restaurant had a well laid out pub style bar. We liked their Campari Orange cocktail; Aperol spritz and Campari spritz "Italiano aperitivo" - appetizers. The Hoegaarden beer was superb. We were able to taste Czech flavours in Beef svickova with cream sauce, Potato dumplings stuffed with smoked pork meat, Beef goulash, Beef rump steak and Roasted prawns. All were splendid. The dessert cheese cake with strawberry sauce too was outstanding. After enjoying the first dinner we were attracted to this restaurant once again for another dinner date and had the opportunity to taste the dishes we missed the first time.

Well... The good food was outweighed by an unpleasant lady who can't behave like a professional waitress. I know that it will be of no use to me, but this way at least I'm complaining about arrogance, unwillingness, a bad mood. I didn't want to go there, at the same time I praise the chef, but unfortunately it doesn't soften the review in any way

Refuse to pay for tap water!

The restaurant is very close to the Hilton where we stayed and was highly recommended. Our waiter, Alexander, was very pleasant at first and the food was good and reasonably priced. However, when we got the bill, we queried why we had been charged over 4 British pounds or 8 Australian dollars or 5 US dollars for one glass of tao water. We assumed it was an error but Alexander told us that everything is paid for in the Czech Republic. We had not facts to argue with so had to accept it. On returning to the hotel we asked about this and were told that no restaurant should do that. We checked with the tour operator's representative who had recommended the hotel and he told us that paying for tap water is not normal. As it's in his interests to give good advice to guests, I doubt if he will recommend this place in future.

Found the staff and service to be excellent. Staff very friendly and a great atmosphere inside. Had the chicken soup and nachos for starters which were nice and the nachos not as expected. Mains was chicken stuffed in goats cheese with potatoes. Absolutely gorgeous. If I ever return to Prague, I'll certainly come back here for a meal.

Upon our arrival at our hotel in Prague, one of the river cruise staff at our hotel recommended this restaurant. It was very close to our hotel, so we walked over. The hotel is in a good location, but not directly in Old Town, so the area was not crowded. We were greeted as we approached the porch/outside dining area and offered a seat. The waiter spoke excellent english and was very helpful with the menu. We ordered the goulash, the pork stuffed buns, and something else (there were 4 of us). Every thing was delicious and everyone loved their meals. They also had a decent selection of beer and wine. And, the prices were very reasonable. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a lunch or dinner out.

We ate here our first night in Prague based on the recommendation of our Viking tour guide. It was a short walk from the Hilton. We did not have reservations but were seated right away. The wait staff were very friendly and provided excellent service. The menu was in English and the staff spoke English. Credit cards are accepted. The beef goulash was good but only a small amount of beef. The svickova (beef in cream sauce) was excellent. The Staropramen draft beer is cheap and excellent. Food prices were reasonable. We enjoyed this place so much we went back a second time.

I went there to pick up some food to take away two days in a row. The person who attended me was really nice. The food was really good, although it a bit of time to have it prepared, and I didn’t get everything I ordered (they forgot the salmon). The price was not extremely cheap, but not too expensive. I recommend this place if you are next to Florenc area.

Came here for our first night in Prague and it didn’t disappoint, was always asked if we wanted a refill on drinks. The food was amazing and well worth the price. So much so we came again and it was just as great the second time. Steak was cooked perfectly! Would definitely recommend!

Super Restaurant.

Called in at the Gate restaurant on the last night of our visit to Prague. Just wish we had visited earlier. The food was really well presented and cooked to perfection. Within 3 minutes of sitting at our table we had drinks served and our food ordered. The food arrived 5 mins later and it was wonderful. The restaurant was busy but the staff were really efficient and nothing was too much trouble. If you ever get to prague make sure you visit this restaurant. You won't be disappointed. One of the top restaurants in the city.
