Ok, this is not fine dining, but I liked my garlic soup, the trout with chips and beer on tap. The menu is not large which is good sign in my opinion. Quick and efficient service. Apparently, place mostly frequented by locals.

The history of this pub / inn is dating back to the 16th century. You can find here a lot of locals drinking and eating, the menu is based on traditional Czech cuisine. The restaurant can be easily accessed from the train station on foot...(10 mins) or by trolleys/buses (1 stop). The service was bad, the soups were spilled and the main course was served while eating the starter soup. The thicker part of the chicken was a bit raw. Anyway, the portion was big.More

Nice place to have lunch or dinner, or just have a glass of beer. Large portion of meal, really tasty, homemade food.

We had the potato dumplings filled with smoked pork, and pork shoulder and sausage dish. Both were good, although not too much difference than the Bavarian neighbour s, I definitely prefer this homemade style twist.

We walked in because we were hungry on the way from the train station. Not really attractive from outside, but the interior brings you to a very decent pub/restaurant that was here already hundreds of years ago for travellers who came too late in the...evening to be let through the city gate. We had very good Czech meals and beer.More

Been there with my wife. We enjoyed great Czech food and some interesting (very good) beers, not very easy to get elsewhere in Česke Budejovice (Čertovský speciál, Flying Cloud IPA...). Environment and prices are not touristic, fortunately. I just hope U Černého koníčka will remain...like that, and will come back at the first opportunity with pleasure again.More

No frills pub, good decor and ambiance, excellent service, great food and good beer selection. I really like their stuffed potato dumpling (domácí plněné bramborové knedlík), a must-have Czech food. There is a non-smoking section which makes this a good option for a family meal....They also have an English language menu.More

The location is more than perfect right on the main square, the interior is nothing special, but the staff and food make for it. Definitely stop by here for a local "draft" beer and try the Czech traditional food. We were lucky to be there...in the weekend of apple harvest, so they were serving roasted duck with apple. Though we found no apples on the plates, the duck was delicious (6 EUR) and the waitress was nice and brought some roasted apples from the kitchen for us based on our request. Would definitely stop by the place once again if I'm in Trebon some time.More

U Cerneho Konicka is an excellent two-room (bar and restaurant) people's pub, with plenty of locals present when I visited at 5pm. Furnishings are simple, with breweriana photos and over sixty enamel adverts on the walls. Service was friendly and attentive. Four beers were on...tap, including Kvasnicory Platan Tanku, Lobkowicz and Merlin Cerny, all in top condition and a delight to savour as a change from the usual Budvar and Urquell. The Pony is situated 15 minutes' walk from the main Square, and is well worth a visit.More
