One word says it all! Petrus, chef patron, is a star. His food is exceptional with creative use of textures and flavours that has to be experienced to be believed. Awesome. Over recent months we have tested and tasted almost all of his dishes and we have never been disappointed. Come on Michelin, give him at least a Bib Gourmand!... More

A cut above the usual gastro-pub grub. It is clear that the poet is striving for accolades. Not at the top yet, but certainly worth the visit. The presentation was superb, and the food to a high standard, as might be expected for the price. The little extras really finished off the meal and with a little refinement could be... More

The Poet in Matfield raises the bar that is out of reach of any restaurant/pub within a 30 mile radius. Last night we had the Taster Menu at the Poet in Matfield, a 16th century pub with a modest appearance that hid a few secrets: superb skilled cooking and flavours that just kept delivering Wow! after Wow! after Wow! At... More

We dropped into the Poet as its near where we happened to be camping with the kids and we went for lunch. I'm rather surprised they are not heaving. The co-owner and chef - la Gavroche trained South African Petrus is a tour de force. Huge beaming smile he showed us what he was going to make us for lunch,... More

We went last night to the poet for the first time and we were not disappointed. The service was second to none, the food was amazing and all four of us are wondering why we waited until now to go there. I would recommend the scallops to start it's an amazing dish which will please your eyes and taste buds.... More

This is an attractive, typical village pub serving outstanding food. The Groupon menu offered 5 (plus a substantial bonus amuse-bouche) courses at a very good price. The menu is pre-set with one choice only of meat or fish for the main dish. All 6 courses were excellent with a huge range of textures and tastes. Harvey's bitter and a good... More
