I made my way to Coogee Pav on Sunday the 11th of April, where I was denied entry for looking "too young". Now after complying and showing security my ID, they came to the conclusion it was fake, even though it was my full drivers...licence. Now I'm 22 and they were complaining I looked 18. Even after explaining to security I was of age, they made a new excuse saying you needed a female in order to gain entry. Will never come here again, security are rude and the manager was on her period for sure. Poor effortMore

Security needs an overhaul or too leave their egos at the door before clocking on. Their intimidating presence is not inviting followed by their extreme power trip behaviour is extremely off putting. It’s such a shame for the venue itself.

Absolutely no beef with the pub itself... we never got to experience the pub because the security guard picked the only person out of 15 (ie. 1/15) who was of aboriginal descent and pulled him out of queue in front of everyone. He then proceeded...to question the poor bloke on his previous endeavours eg. where did you have dinner? How many drinks? The victim had 1x super dry with 1x Chicken snitty and chips and was denied entry purely based off the fact he looked intimidating and indigenous. The manager was then called out the front where he openly apologised but stated there he was nothing he could do because his autistic security guard didn’t know how to do his job. If you want to go out anywhere.. I strongly advise anywhere on the planet before the Coogee Pav.More

Went in with a group of 30 pick the only aboriginal person out of the group and denied them. He had only had 1 drink prior but security would not listen. An Asian security guard told my fiend he was denied for being “too intoxicated...for entry”. No explanation was warranted told to go away. Poor excuse for a hotel of serviceMore

Just visiting our daughter and son in law. Thought this would be a great location for dinner. Service was just ok. Firstly we asked for a non alcoholic cocktail and an alcoholic one. The waitress got that wrong. Gave my pregnant daughter the alcoholic one....Mucked up the beer order up. The entrees were very nice and served up quite quickly. Our main meals were much slower. Yes they were very busy being Easter Saturday but the meals were very disappointing. My pasta was ok but not that tasty. My husband had steak but no gravy. Way too many chips and the broccoli was barely cooked. My daughters fish was disappointing as it was not what she expected. A whole cooked fish. My son in laws steak was just ok. Our waiter was very good. As queensladers we will not be returning even when we visit again.More

I've been seeing and reading a lot of reviews on Coogee Pavilion racism towards islanders but I am not of islander decent & have experienced the same type of discrimination and poor treatment as an African female. This is going to be a lengthy post...so sit tight or skip ahead. Myself along with a group of friends decided to book here for a girls night out to take a break from Uni. I am the only African female of my group of friends & right from the very beginning, I was treated differently. All the girls were let in without being searched & without being asked for ID while I was pulled aside, asked for ID and had my bag searched because the security guard said it was part of their policy. My group of friends witnessed this happen as they were waiting for me & while I was complying to everything the security guards wanted me to do, my friend's demanded to speak to the manager as we had already pre booked and went out of our way to come here. My friend's also questioned the security guards as to why I was the only one pulled aside when we were all from the same group and stated that it was unfair. The part that shocked us the most was when we were waiting for the security guards to give me the "all clear", one of my friends asked the security guard if they had singled me out from the group because I was black & he turned around and cut my friend off and said if she didn't stop talking that we would all be asked to leave the venue for harassment?!! Eventually the manager finally came down after 15-20mins and I was allowed to join my friends in the venue but as the night went on, we barely finished our food and only had just begun having a few cocktails when I was approached by the same security guards from the entrance & was told that I had to leave because I was too intoxicated when I clearly wasn't! I couldn't believe it! 2 of my friends decided to leave with me as we had traveled a fair distance to get here and so we decided to leave as we didn't want them to target me or single me out any further. On top of this, the food is below average, drinks are a 1 star and overall experience doesn't even deserve any stars. Would never recommend. I want to bring to light that if you are someone of colour who is also seeing and reading the poor reviews of this place on social media & the internet, that I want you all to know that this disgusting, disrespectful and downright nasty treatment from the security guards happens to all of us who are of colour no matter if you are male or female. We must stand together and I just wanted to warn any unsuspecting males OR females with the slightest bit of melanin to be weary of this venue and its unfair policies and uneducated security guards who think they are untouchable because they wear a security uniform & belittle, put down & treat all people of colour unfairly even though they are of colour too. To those Coogee Pavilion security guards - If you ever read these reviews or if you can even read at all, know & understand that you are no better then the next person & that karma is a real biartch who doesn't spare anyone.More

A terrible experience from start to finish. After countless emails and calls two weeks prior to try and slightly change a booking which I still never heard back from, keeping in mind their outrageous $50 no show fee, they still had me extremely concerned that...I was going to lose money based on their organisation. All of the females in the booking made it into the venue while the security told the males to piss off for no reason. After asking what their reasoning was, the security guard said there are too many guys upstairs, yet he was allowing numerous other males apart from my BOOKED IN group into the venue. He then argued as he did not look me in the eyes and faced the other direction that they were being smart arses which is false as last time I checked telling a security guard you have a booking was not being smart. After trying he told the boys to go away and forget it which is so disgsuting as we spent a lot of money to travel to this venue as it is out of the way and bought clothes for the night. I proceeded to speak to the workers upstairs whom did not do much and then spoke to the manager who said the security guards said the males from our group were too intoxicated, yet they had nothing to drink. The manager did nothing and the fact I had a booking was completely disregarded and with 10 people from the booking not getting in, no reassurance was given to me that I would not have to pay the no show fee ($50 for each person). Our might was ruined and we left. I would never waste my time and effort here again, drinks and food are overpriced, music is boring, the security guards are disgusting and bias. There are much better places to enjoy drinks than here.More
