On our 3rd visit in about 6 years to enjoy the seafood platter and crayfish chowder we were sooo disappointed this time. Seafood platter was colourless and everything except for the paua and smoked salmon overcooked. The crayfish chowder was a browny colour with tiny...rubbery pieces of crayfish and an overpowering taste of mussels in the sauce??? Everything was under seasoned. I also had lemon meringue pie off the specials board which tasted like orange/passionfruit, definitely not lemon, gluey filling and very undercooked pastry which was inedible. Was beautifully presented on the plate, but that was the end of it. Sorry to say we won't be back 😒More

The best meal of our holiday by a long shot! Juicy, tender, flavor packed and fast service too. The location and views just top it all off. Might not look much from the outside but you won’t regret dining here. Busy even on a Monday...night, book ahead to make sure you don’t miss out!More

My wife had the seafood chowder main and I managed a taste: exquisite. I hoed into the seafood platter consisting of melt-in-your-mouth calaimari, seared paua, battered whitebait (not filleted :-) , salmon steak, pan-fried cod, seafood pate, mussels in shell (with a divine sauce), a...seaweed salad, a mouth-watering glass of Marlbough Chardonny (extra), and the most amazing view of snow-capped alps, transcendent against an abundant azure ocean backdrop.More

We had planned to eat at the Seafood BBQ place, only to find that they closed early. We found this place, and were surprised to see that they were mostly booked, but they could get us in about a half-hour after opening for dinner. Since...we had an hour or so to wait, we hung around outside. After not really seeing any seals at the viewpoint, we found a seal pup right sitting on rocks right across from the hotel. Watching it made the time go quicker. As for the dinner itself, the food and service were top-notch. I especially enjoyed the lobster and the pavlova. The one dish that wasn't very good was the lobster bisque. It seemed to have some bitterness to it. Overall, however, I would recommend this place if you're looking for a nice sit-down dinner, and maybe you'll see a seal if you get lucky.More

Kid friendly restaurant and good beers, mussels and chowder. Booking is essential as it does get busy. Amazing views too!

Popped in for a beer at The Pier well in my case a cheeky Chardonnay. We were able to sit outside, in the sun it was glorious on a winter day in August. Staff are helpful and friendly and we really enjoyed being able to...just sit and relax. I’ve eaten here in the past and the crayfish/lobster is phenomenal and well worth ordering. Call in, sit awhile you won’t regret it the views are magnificent and the vibe is friendly and welcoming.More

Although a little more expensive than most restaurants we frequent, we thoroughly recommend the Pier Hotel restaurant. Definitely book ahead to be sure of a table. The restaurant was warm and busy, with a relaxed vibe. Smallish wine and beer list, supporting local. Generous servings...in our two meals - Angus Rib-Eye beef and Fish of the Day. Desserts were good, basic fare but hit the spot. The crayfish option was popular among other tables.More

2pm and they were still flat out. A good pub with the food you would hope to still find. Very popular and they are busy-busy. Lots of outdoor seating.

My husband had the crayfish chowder which had a strange taste in it. I had the seafood platter which was okay but nothing spectacular. The meals lacked flavour and love.
