We had just an hour in Greymouth and liked the exterior look of The Ale House. We were welcomed at the door, such a nice touch. The room was light and warmed with aircon and an open fire. The menu was extensive with the usual...More

Really nice site, good food (we ordered the steak sandwich, loaded wedges, and the burger special) well cooked, nice vibe. There was an error with our order but they were extremely apologetic and were quick to remedy it. If you're looking for a decent, well...More

Don’t expect much & you won’t be disappointed. Service was average, some of the food was good but some was average, setting nice but a bit too cold, should have requested to move closer to fire instead of as far away as possible

The warm inviting ambiance was obvious from the time we walked through the doors. Across the road from the railway station it’s easy to spot. The service was quick and attentive and the generous sized meals were great. Nice night thank you.

My family are Thai so I was really surprised that they loved everything we ordered. The foods were flavourful, and we would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to our friends.

Whenever we visit not as touristy towns in NZ, I notice bits like the decor falling apart or cheaply prepared and overpriced food. SAHs are a great chain with reliably edible simple food. Hubby often gets a chicken Caesar salad and has probably had one...More

The Speight's Ale House is an excellent place to try the New Zealand traditional type of cuisine. The lamb cutlet was copious and very tasty, not to mention the Pavlova meringue cream and fruit dessert which was more than delicious. The morning breakfast was equally...More

On the whole a disappointing experience which has taught us to do our research first. Clearly the reviews aren't making a difference. On the whole the staff were unfriendly, the wait was long (almost an hour) and the food expensive for very average fare. We...More

The restaurant was cold and food took almost an hour to arrive. A couple we talked to on the way out had to wait more than an hour and a half. The food was okay but not worth the prices charged.
