This has been our main meeting venue for friends when we visit Whangarei. It enjoys a prime town basin position and is large enough to always guarantee a seat. Our last couple of visits have not been good and hopefully this review will guide it out of its complacency. Our last visit was first thing on a Sunday morning for... More

It was very busy for Sunday lunch. Always a good sign. I was worried about wait time as we had a movie to go to. However, despite the crowd our meals came reasonably quickly. My daughter enjoyed her nachos and my seafood chowder was nice. There is a great menu and if you like desserts the cabinet was full of... More

We were travelling and arrived quite late for a quick lunch, so found the food selection a little limited - but that was our fault not theirs. My companions had pies and pronounced them very good, my panini was well filled and tasty. Good coffee. Well worth stopping in this lovely area, good for a wqlk along the waterfront to... More

Ate there 3 times during my week stay as local friends loved it and I agreed. Food good and reasonable, service good and loved the coffee.

Our usual cafe of choice if we are stopping for a coffee at the Town Basin. Lovely location, lots to see and do. Typical cafe sort of food.

Coffee and a chat - that's what we were looking for. So - the coffee (and cake) were fine, but we had to ask for the music to be turned down before we could have a chat. Looking at the bank of speakers above the menu board - it was no wonder patrons were being blasted by a wall of... More

I was horrified at my breakfast which was scrambled eggs (dairy free) and bacon. My eggs were raw and the 2 tiny pieces of middle bacon were dry and chewy, whole breakfast was swimming in oil. I won't go there again.

Hi Jackie S - I was most disappointed to see your view and that you were also disappointed. I find it very hard to believe my staff would serve raw eggs, dry crusty bacon and all of it swimming in oil, but bow to your greater judgement, but the greatest disappointment given our usual very high standards is that we... We had a beautiful lunch at Mokaba Cafe. On the twenty-three days we were in New Zealand we tried seafood chowder everywhere and this was the very BEST mussel chowder we have ever tasted.. I wrote "amazing and lovely" on our receipt. I'm very fussy about fish. The toast that accompanied the chowder was delicious as well--how do they make... More
