Part of the history of St Kilda. Amazing range of cakes. I only had one! It was delightful. You can sense the history in the place. Great coffee too.

Number one bakery in St Kilda, and in the absence of having tried tried any other I'd say it's quite good. I asked for cream on the side but that wasn't available either. So:... More

Traditional European cakes and slices, fresh and delicious every single visit. An icon of Acland Street. I always get the mini kugel and microwave for 20 seconds at home...mmm

Many cake shops are found in this local area but you need to choose monarch. Fresh cakes which melt in your mouth and a jazzy little cafe too. I would definitely go back, the apple pie was excellent

This place is one amongst a few other bakeries on acland street This place was very expensive My dessert was average The decor inside is vintage and very nice to look at Menu isn't overly extensive But at the end of the day just another bakery.

We were visiting from Queensland and just had to visit this iconic cake shop. Definitely not disappointed with the most delicious cakes and top class coffee. The decor is fascinating with an eclectic mix of furniture and wonderful library to browse. The staff were very efficient and super friendly which made our day. Having a chat about St Kilda football... More

Lonely Planet usually doesn't steer me wrong, but they were off on their rave review for this cake shop. It's hard to believe that a restaurant in business since 1934 can't get customer service right, but it was not worth the trip I made as a tourist in downtown Melbourne to St Kilda. The chocolate kooglhoupf was nothing amazing as... More

Been here before for Kugelhof and dropped by one this visit to Melbourne to pick up a take away Little Kugelhof. 30 sec in the microwave and a delicious, authentic European cake for dessert. Enough to two non-greedy people. $7.50 a little pricey, but a treat.

Stopped in here for desert after a meal elsewhere and while it actually doesn't look as appealing as some of the other cake shops in Acland Street it proves that looks can be deceiving. We had coffee and and some Cherry Crumble and I can recommend it as being the best desert I have eaten in a long while. I'm... More

Walked down Acland Street to get a coffee and decided to buy a cake as a gift. Walked into Monarch and the owner looked at us and said thats like taking a sandwich to a restaurant. Why would you do that? I said we bought coffee and then decided to buy a cake so came in here... he again said... More
