L'espresso was one of Ballarat's first bustling cafe, bar, restaurant venues. Its reputation for producing outstanding coffee, wonderful meals (and excellent menu choices) reaches far beyond the city's CBD. These days its popularity brings with it a couple of negatives - and I prefer to visit early in the morning (breakfasts are great) or later in the day when the... More

This is a popular spot in Ballarat for locals and tourists. Great place for a meal or coffee with friends. Great menu and the food is reasonably priced. I have been here many times and would recommend :)

This tiny coffee shop has wonderful atmosphere and is the perfect place for breakfast on a cold and wet Saturday morning. Coffee is excellent, breakfast reliable.

Easily the best breakfast and coffee in Ballarat. Coffee alone worth coming back for. Their homemade "baked beans" are incredible, and their potato rösti's are amazing. Not deep fried hashbrowns, but actual potatoes cooked with parsley and delicious. It is small and dark inside, but cozy. European vibe. I wouldn't bring small children here as there's not much space and... More

Well the food is edible. but quite expensive . The staff are friendly enough, but often don't really know the food they are serving well. There are better places to visit in Ballarat ,esp if just after coffee. A tip though.....bring a torch....it is ridiculously dark in there.

Had the prawn pasta. Ok. It was flavourful but the flavours hadn't quite combined. Service was ok. Our water glasses weren't filled often enough. The restaurant had interesting ambiance. It seems you can buy CDs there??? A bit of a mystery. This is a good place in a country city. I know why I live in Melbourne though.

I read the great reviews on TripAdvisor so it seemed like a sure thing - and it was. I didn't realise it was more 'restaurant' than 'cafe' in terms of the majority of dishes, so price points more mid-$20s than $15. But who cares when food is that delicious. I had a winter vegetable tart which was one of those... More

Not cheap, but not ridiculous. But always on point! The food is so delicious, and the staff are always friendly and willing to help even if you want something off menu(depending what it is). The only thing is there is limited space, so book ahead if you can for any larger parties. The coffee is absolutely lovely! They also have... More

Caught up with some friends for lunch here and the food was incredible! Gnocchi with osso bucco, pumpkin soup, bolognaise and the steak sandwich were all just amazing! Staff were friendly and nice and cosy to sit in. Would highly recommend to anyone!!
