A warm restaurant with major hints of the 80's . The menu is very traditional I think my son's partner had the best venison I have ever tried. The comfit of duck was also a great success. Excellent service, a competent wine list, all in all a lovely package that was well priced. My wife really enjoyed the desserts. Comfort... More

Franco-Australian fine cooking. Smallish servings perhaps but well cooked. The seafood chowder was not as creamy and artery clogging as its New England cousins, thankfully, but could have been more generous a serve. The Venison and the Confit of duck were well done and possibly the most tender venison I have ever eaten. Perhaps it had rested a little too... More

Thank you for your kind words. sorry you didn't think the soup was a large enough serve, but we try to balance our menu to give our guests the ability to have three courses and truly experience the true restaurant experience. as for the ice cream, i can assure you that we make all ice creams and sorbets served in... The food is very good: stylish, clever, imaginative (especially the various jus!) Service very good and nice ambience so it's a pity it's spoiled by using imported (frozen?) prawns, that they offer you water and then charge you for it (and what kind of a real French bistro doesn't offer you bread?) Small things but when you're this good, they're... More

Thank you for your review. Im not sure what you mean by frozen imported prawns. there are no fresh prawns in tasmania. Yes our prawns are frozen when we get them but they are definitely not imported from overseas, unless you mean from Queensland. we use the finest quality Queensland black tiger prawn tails. Im sorry you misunderstood the water... More

Friends had set up the hype but disappointed. The service was fine and the waitress was engaging. Parts of the meal were very good - oysters were delicious, the meat, oh dear that well done request...the vegetarian dishes lacked real flavour and a dessert which did not meld. The beetroot brownie and the ice-cream worked but not the sauce which... More

My husband and I ate here on Wednesday night, we did the 6 course degustation and everything was amazing. We had cured ocean trout, oyster croquette, stripy trumpeter, mushrooms, venison and coconut ice cream and lime sorbet. All dishes were amazing and the matching wines went well, the waitress was good enough to swap out the red and dessert wine... More

In Launceston for a business trip and decided on Brisbane Street Bistro based on great reviews - for a romantic dinner for one! Greeted warmly at the door, and offered a table without reservation. Room mainly full of small groups and couples. Service was somewhat nervous, not helped with the awkward dining alone situation, but applaud the intent. Perusal of... More

What a find, we were delighted when we were able to snare a table with no booking so we could try this delightful restaurant. Next time I will definitely book and suggest you do too. A glass of champagne on arrival with a little taste from the kitchen to stimulate the appetite - delicious. We had the cassulet which was... More
