We have travelled past the Barn for many years & just last week decided to actually call in for a meal. We were very impressed to say the least. We called the restaurant & were booked in straight away (we had to travel 1 hour) with a table for two. Once we arrived we were seated promptly & the waiting... More

The Barn is promoted as an excellent steakhouse and lives up to the claim. We had a drink in the bar lounge first, friendly and a good range of drinks. The restaurant menu has a steak emphasis but caters well with a selection of non steak dishes. Great selection of entrees and an even better selection of desserts. I had... More

be aware that the steak is cooked to exactly how you ordered it. So rare does mean rare. Which is great. Quality of steak is fantastic. The red wine sauce is very tasty and the mushroom sauce is excellent too with good quality mushrooms. It's not cheap eat, but worth the money as a treat.

There are only a handful of restaurants that make my "Best meal of my life" list (made more odder because, realistically they all cannot be number one) But this is one of those meals. I'm not a huge steak fan but mostly because they usually do such a horrible job of it. This was incredible. This was a huge amount... More

Always great steak however the menu really needs to be updated. There are only so many ways for steak. Would like a little more variety and it would be perfect. If course the chocolate pudding is to die for 😉

I ate here with my partner, we booked a table at the last minute and I am thankful we got a table for two. On arrival I had a toblerone cocktail which was so lovely. We sat down and ordered a tasting plate, I was surprised that the artichoke wasn't actually chargrilled. Every other component was lovely. I ordered a... More

We've been coming to this restaurant for the last 20 years, it's good every time. You know what you'll get. The quality of steak is good and well cooked. The service is good with reasonable price. The wine cellar is amazing, it's got both cheaper and very expensive wine. It's definitely worth driving 5 hours from Adelaide for this!!!

Three of us had dinner here. It is renowned for its excellent steaks & it exceeded its reputation. Other food looked good & there is an extensive (& expensive!!) wine selection.

Took my family of four there and left with a bill of $140+. That included only one beer and two meals off the kids menu. Larger parties of adults will leave with bigger bills. Food was pretty good, however the steak will come undercooked. I recommend ordering one level higher than you would normally eat (i.e. if you like "rare"... More

Lovely venue about 10km from Mount Gambier with a long tradition. Been there many times but this time was a special Christmas menu and a live band. Very efficient staff. Busy night with 700 people there. Best range of red wines in South Australia.

Description
We select the best export quality beef available in the country. Our preference is for beef that is finished on grass as this provides meat with maximum flavor, just as nature intended. What we do differently at the Barn is that we age our beef on the premises for 8 weeks or longer. When you consider the work, the cost, the waste, is it really worthwhile to age beef for a long time? Most people and places say beef is aged when it is two weeks old. Like great wines that improve for 50 years, great beef gets sweeter, more tender and acquires a taste that cannot be duplicated except with proper aging.
