A good evening but !

We were made very welcome on a very busy Sunday night and advised of a delay of about 40 minutes, No problem sat in the sun and enjoyed the beer and the food when it arrived. When we went to pay we were very surprised to have a charge for paying by credit card added. Given the turn over of this establishment what a miserly tactic, get rid of it and enter the real world.

Good meal, good beer and friendly service

We ate at the Ranch on recommendation from a local and we were not disappointed. When arriving we were informed that usually the restaurant was booked out from 4 pm onwards and were asked to wait at the bar for twenty minutes. No problem with a beer in front of us - the wait was less than 10 minutes. The restaurant has a friendly and warm atmosphere, the food was excellent and arrived in a short while. As we were being served a piece of fish fell on the floor and we were within a short time provided with another two pieces of fish. (The fish on the floor was gratefully consumed by the resident cat at our back packer accommodation :-)) Good value for money, efficient service and good food and drink are a great recipe to have people come back another time. Well done!!

Delicious food, with friendly staff at good prices!

We (family of five) ate here and had a very enjoyable the meal, the staff were all friendly , personable and accomodating, the food was all delicious at reasonable prices, especially the $20 roast of the day (bargain!) our lamb was sensational. The steak eggs and chips was also a favourite. Much better off here than the horrible Paradiso across the street.

This place shouldn’t be serving food, had the worst hamburger ever made by man, all burned with After taste that will take us few days to forget.. the chicken schnitzel was covered with tomato sauce that was the only thing you would remember after having one bite. When the waiter made a mistake and gave us the food of another table and my father already start touching it, it was immediately transferred to another table without any doubts from the stuff about maybe making a new one. Spare yourself a horrible night of staying hungry and looking for a place that will still serve you food and don’t step in that so called “restaurant “.

We came in for dinner on a Saturday night and it was packed as the rugby was on, but we still got a table pretty quickly. The service was really good, the waitresses were obviously busy but working hard and our meals were hearty big portions so it was good value as well. Good, cosy pub vibes with a buzz even during level 2!

Excellent meal! Meal was so good that we returned the following night! Can recommend the roast. Attentive staff. Special praise for the Chilean guy on front of house, our delightful Japanese waitress and the great bar man. We were advised that there would be a wait for a table but the wait was shorter than predicted. Great value, well cooked food with very generous portions and served with a smile :) Recommended...

Sunday roast $17.50 with veggies, delicious. We did book a table in the afternoon, the line up by 6pm was huge so cant beat that. Kids had kids fish and chips - huge serve chips but only 2 small pieces of fish. Teen son devoured the ribs. Only issue which seems to be universal in NZ is patrons are allowed to smoke with their meals outside ( banned in Australia ) so their smoke drifts in everytime the door is opened.

Tremendous wait staff, great mussels, pity about the Monk fish

Monk fish was a little disappointing (not as good as what I have had before - not sure of root cause) but the mussels, tremendous. The host and wait staff very helpful and friendly. The wait for the meal was over 30 mins which we deemed a little too long.

Great service, The taste of the food was good but lamb was dry and the blue cod was overcooked, dry and flaky so it tested like lemon fish from a fish and chips schop. It could have been so much nicer if cooked properly. The staff offered to replace our meals but as we both hungry and both meals where overcooked we didn't want to wait any longer for 2 new meals. The chocolate mud cake was delicious.

Super friendly staff gave us a warm welcome each of the three times we visited. All the food we had was tasty and excellent value for money, and all the thing we could see other people have looked fantastic too. Nice friendly buzz to the place and we'd happily recommend.

Great pub fare - very busy on the night we ate here as lots of people had been stranded in Te Anau unable to go further to Milford but they got our meals out promptly with the sunniest of smiles and super friendly service. No pretensions here at fine dining - just good range of beers/wines and all the sorts of things you want to see on the menu like roasts, schnitzels, cod, burgers etc. My beef schnitzel was great (as were the chips) and so was the Blue Cod - hearty servings! Obviously been doing pub grub right for many years. Nice work.

The restaurants we wanted to try in Te Anau were both closed. The Ranch was pumping and there was a queue for dinner. The maitre’d advised us that there will be approximately a twenty minute wait before our order could be taken. We accepted and was duly shown to a table. Our order was taken as soon as our drinks were brought to the table. My Roast Lamb came with red wine jus, served with potatoes, kumara, carrots, parsnip, cauliflower in cream sauce and peas. The lamb absolutely melted in my mouth. It was nicely presented and the portion was very generous. Certainly didn’t expect the experience of both nice food at a very reasonable price and exceptional value for money. The waiter was also very efficient and friendly. All in all, a very pleasant dining experience.

You get charged for gravy which should have been supplied with the meal

The food was ok. However two of our part ordered the sausage and mash with lavish amounts of gravy. Well lavish is was not so we asked or more gravy. It eventually arrived, we were now half way through the meal, and was served in a bowl, making pouring very difficult. I was totally unimpressed to see a NZ$ 3 charge for this gravy. Plus we were also charged for using a credit card. Not that we can use any other card as we are visitors to NZ. The final issue was being given the bill, but having nobody come to collect payment, eventually we were informed that payment was made as we left. So why didn’t the waitress inform us of this when she gave us the bill. We won’t go again.

We recently ate here while on holiday. When we entered the restaurant we were greeted warmly. We had no booking and were advised of a 20min wait due to Covid restrictions. We waited at the bar and were seated within 10minutes. Our waitress was extremely helpful and friendly. Our meals were out of this world, they tasted amazing. The meals were presented beautifully, cooked to perfection and had just the right amount of food on the plate. We never usually order dessert but we both did and OMG every bit as good as the main. We would actually move to Te Anau to eat here on a regular basis!! Our service and meals were so good we bought the chefs a drink and left a good tip for the service staff. This restaurant should be on everyone's bucket list, to the locals in Te Anau we are jealous of you.

First night in TeAnau for quite a number of years so headed here for a feed and a few drinks after perusing TA for spots. Busy location, great themed decor. Food was good although the portion sizing was erring towards the small size. Most staff were friendly, but just some small things like no offer of water for the table is outside the norm for the hospitality trade. I would dine here again but only after sampling elsewhere.
