I had Thai 2 go in wanaka twice and both times I was alarmed by how sweet it was! Really! Disappointing as love the vegetables ! Would get the Tom yum again tho as that did not seem sweet and had great flavour
I gave Thai2go 1 star because I couldn’t give it any lower.
With all the restaurants and food businesses in Queenstown struggling and trying to survive at present, I am so angry that as a local trying to support local businesses, I wasted my money...tonight on Thai2go for the first time.
I ordered 3 main meals, and 2 jasmine rice at $85+, the portions were not large compared to other Thai restaurants I have eaten at.
The food whilst it tasted ok, didn’t really taste like Thai food, and I have eaten Thai food all over the world, including Thailand.
The stir fry meals were dry, unlike traditional Thai food, and the vegetables you used weren’t traditional vegetables that are used in Thai food, it was obvious that the restaurant was using vegetables that were cheap and in season, which is fine, but agin isn’t traditional Thai, and as such changes the flavor of the meals.
Then again, at the price you charge, which is on the high side, I really see no reason why you are using vegetables that you can purchase “cheap” at the present time, I’m guessing you will use the “organic” excuse I have read in some of you other responses to Facebook criticism.
But the worst part of this whole experience was the fact we were told when ordering the meal, the meal would be ready for pick up at 6.40 pm.
Therefor we arrived outside your restaurant/shop at 6.35 pm so as to be punctual, we then ended up sitting outside your establishment until 7.45 pm, waiting in the cold Queenstown night at about 8 degrees, for over 1 hour, for late food.
And when I expressed my disappointment at the time, when your staff member finally bought out our food, that staff member shrugged his shoulders and said that your business was quote “short staffed and very busy”.
Well then hire some more people, considering the number of people in town that have recently lost their jobs, I suggest you support your local people and employ some more, as you expect locals to do for you.
Sorry no matter how good food is, and unfortunately yours wasn’t that good, nothing is worth sitting in the cold of a Queenstown night, outside a restaurant, for over 1 hour waiting for food.
This is the worst food experience I have ever had in Queenstown in over 12 years of living here.
Suffice to say we won’t be back, and suggest anyone reading this post to give Thai2go a miss.More
Was looking forward to a home delivered dish but bitterly disappointed. Despite saying would deliver by 8:30pm on website didn’t deliver at all!!!! Phoned and told was on way at 9pm. Phoned again and no answer. Despite having our phone number and address didn’t deliver....Wouldn’t rely on this restaurant if you’re hungry!More
We were staying at Millbrook but even though Thai2go was in Queenstown they still delived (providing we had at least 2 main courses.) Excellent meals that were very large. We got a few lunches out of it as well. Good choice.
I order from Thai 2 go a lot with friends in Arrowtown and often from all different addresses.
On Saturday we ordered and were told that it would be 45-50min. I understand that new drivers to the area aren’t familiar everything so when it was...15mins late we didn’t worry, after 45mins I called to find that the driver couldn’t find our house and the food had been returned.
I was slightly miffed to say the least as the house was on a main road and numbered on the gate.
I was quite short with the gentleman on the phone but he assured me the food was still hot and it would be there shortly.
10mins the later the knock on the door was the manager I’d spoken to very apologetic that his staff had completely messed up the address and that my food was free of charge.
Turned what could have been a black mark into a straight up gold star :)
Also to all the other critics about the ingredients out there, Thai 2 go does use excellent, organic, in season ingredients. Might be slightly different then traditional but I think they should be commended for it as it’s always fresh, local and flavourful!More
This place must live on tourists who come once and never again. It is part of a chaotic and absurdly overpriced organic store. We ordered the crispy chicken and rice. A few strips of chicken covered in globs of sweet chilli sauce and placed on...half cold sticky rice. And at a price of $21. At least you get a cardboard box. Avoid this miserable place.More
