There is much to like about Scotia. However, we did encounter an issue or two which impacted our evening. Having said that the restaurant did a very good job of handling the issue and staging a strong "recovery". We ordered 2 entrees rather than an entree and a main, fully expecting the meals to be staged. They weren't and after... More

Had a dinner for four recently. Entrees were all delicious. Could have eaten them over and over. Mains were overall good. Lamb was undercooked but they quickly sorted that. Sides of vegetables didn't arrive but we were replete regardless. Deserts were yummy too. Wines were great finished off with a small dram. Only niggle was staff clearly wanted us gone... More

Scotia never disappoints. On a rainy, chilly Dunedin night, the upstairs Doon bar is cosy and welcoming. My husband enjoyed a couple of drama, particularly appreciating the Old Pulteney 17, while I savoured a deliciously crisp Central Otago dauvigbon blanc. It remains one of our favourite places.

We went as a group of friends - to start off with, we were told off (rather rudely) by one of the female waiting staff that we were not to bring cakes without having informed them beforehand (even though we were happy to pay for cake corkage - which was $25, for anyone else out there who is wanting to... As a venison lover, I order a venison dish every time I eat out. The waiter didn't ask how well I wanted it to be cooked and it turned out that they brought out a dry and chewy, well-done dish out to me. I have never come across a restaurant who serves a venison well-done as default. A few minutes... More

We apologize that your venison wasn't up to our usual standard, Well done is not the default temperature for anything that leaves our kitchen. Im sure that your waiter would have apologized and offered to get you another dish cooked when you were meal checked. (I have followed this up) You stated that your meal was over cooked but continued... More

This is where i like to go for special occasions. It is quiet, comfortable and refined. It has the best whiskey selection in the city and a great wine list. Last meal i had was the hare in fed wine which was absolutely stunning. Great for special occasions

A really lovely restaurant. The restaurant is situated on the bottom level with the whiskey(scotch) bar on the top floor. The food was very good. Unfortunately, they were out of lamb when I was there, but I had a delicious Goat Cheese and Mushroom Tartlet that did not disappoint. We were also encourage to try Haggis as an appetizer, which... Had heard so much about Scotia that we were really looking forward to eating here. We rang and were told that it was fully booked, walked in to a nearly empty restaurant and were given a table with no problems.Weird go figure. From there the night went down hill. Haggis for entree was delicious. Main course of vension and smoked beef... More

Scotia was re-launched under new ownership in 2015 and the standards are as good as ever. In a city which is steeped in Scottish culture, Scotia is an iconic restaurant with the largest whisky bar in New Zealand and high quality dining at reasonable prices. The restaurant is cosy and friendly with superb ambience. The food is of a very... More
