This is where i like to go for special occasions. It is quiet, comfortable and refined. It has the best whiskey selection in the city and a great wine list. Last meal i had was the hare in fed wine which was absolutely stunning. Great for special occasions

A really lovely restaurant. The restaurant is situated on the bottom level with the whiskey(scotch) bar on the top floor. The food was very good. Unfortunately, they were out of lamb when I was there, but I had a delicious Goat Cheese and Mushroom Tartlet that did not disappoint. We were also encourage to try Haggis as an appetizer, which... Had heard so much about Scotia that we were really looking forward to eating here. We rang and were told that it was fully booked, walked in to a nearly empty restaurant and were given a table with no problems.Weird go figure. From there the night went down hill. Haggis for entree was delicious. Main course of vension and smoked beef... More

Scotia was re-launched under new ownership in 2015 and the standards are as good as ever. In a city which is steeped in Scottish culture, Scotia is an iconic restaurant with the largest whisky bar in New Zealand and high quality dining at reasonable prices. The restaurant is cosy and friendly with superb ambience. The food is of a very... More

I took my husband to Scotia on Friday 16 September for a birthday treat. The atmosphere/ambience is great, the bar upstairs is lovely and cosy, the service in the restaurant was excellent. However, the food was very bland. I had a leek and potato soup as an entree and it was so thick with cream I could not eat it... More

Found this wee bar randomly walking past on our wee holiday. As hubby likes whiskey but knows very little and I'm always up for a wee drinkie we climbed the stairs. What an awesome find! Open fire and great view of one of the many stone churches in the area. The lovely young barman knew his stuff and kindly helped... More

Had a lovely meal in this busy and popular restaurant. Good friendly service. It was nice that they tried to live up to their name by serving haggis as a starter.Being Scottish we had to try it.While it was a nice taste it was nothing like Scottish haggis but full marks for trying.

Great food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere and quick service. Husband and I had a great time here and will definitely be returning. The food had lots of flavour and worth every cent, thanks scotia for a great night.

This restaurant used to be a favourite and were looking forward to going back after being away from Dunedin for 3 years. Sadly we were very disappointed. The hot pot was a tiny portion and not good value for the price, was also dry and bland. The salmon with dill/pea risotto was very bland and salmon over cooked. Will not... More
