From the outside this looks like a basic cafe but inside the food is of a much higher standard and a great surprise. Went with a group of 10 and had a lovely meal. The $20 pre 7pm price is very good value. I had the braised lamb pasta which was really lovely.

Hadn't been to Cornershop for some time. We found food very disappointing and very overpriced. Steak was tough and certainly not worth the $32 price tag. Probably won't go again.

Nowhere offers the consistent quality of food & service like The Cornershop Bistro does. Simple bistro plates cooked to perfection every time. An excellent wine list that is reserved yet well chosen. Like the staff. I have been 5 or 6 times over the last few years & its almost like a relief to find somewhere that appreciates the dining... More

I've thought about leaving a review on a lot of restaurants but then cant be bothered but we had such a good meal at the Cornershop Bistro I decided I had to. My girlfriend and I went with some other mates for the Bistro Bites menu (before 7) after hearing some good reviews from some local Sumner people and we... More

I left Christchurch feeling I wish I lived in Sumner so I could make this my local. It was the kind of place I would return with good friends for a cosy dinner or drinks. The service was friendly and relaxed but attentive. We (regrettably) shared the venison entree which was melt in your mouth delicious, I would go back... More

While staying at a B & B up the hill, we took the long walk down into the small town of Sumner, on the lookout for a place to have dinner. It was worth the walk to find the charming, atmospheric Cornershop Bistro. Service was friendly and well-timed, and the server was helpful in the choosing of our food from... More

Beautiful food and wine. I had the duck and my sister tried the fish. Both amazing, so much flavor in the fish. One of the best meals I had in NZ.

Went here for a friend's birthday. Had the pre arranged set menu. What a disappointment! Fish main was bland and tasteless. Those who ordered the steak found it to be tough and fatty. On a positive note the staff were very attentive and service was good. Definitely won't be recommending.

This café was a good choice of venue for morning coffee for our group outing. Very friendly staff and great service was complemented by the good coffee and some very nice cheese scones. The corner location provides a nice setting and the outdoor seating would be an ideal place on a summer day.
