We try to eat here on each NZ trip. I think it has been getting better year-on-year. Very high quality and consistent cooking - "Bistro" undersells it now I think. Very interesting daily specials (including really good hot oyster option). Varied and interesting wine list. I haven't eaten anywhere better in Christchurch.

This cafe is underrated (I think because it isn't on the beach) don't be deterred!! It's worth the 200m walk from the beach. The food is excellent, the coffee is great, the seats have high backs (omg I am so sick of sitting on stalls), they cater for dogs, kids, babies, couples, large groups, intimate, casual, dressy, takeaway, gym clothes... Absolutely loved tonights visit to this lovely bistro. The hustle and bustle creates a great atmosphere and the service was excellent. Starters were a subtle carrot and coriander soup with toasted ciabatta, a shared sourdough and feta dip (perfect light starter) and the huge but tasty duck crepe. Mains were an amazing coq-au-vin and ciabatta with sides of garlic green... More

This is place is completely satisfying- great ambience ( not too big or nosy) , wonderful staff, and delicious comforting food. It's truly a Cornerstone to the Community and a Bistro that is established and we go there quite often.

I like to tell the world what a great meal we had. The entrees were special, mains exquisite. Staff were friendly and attentive. A real pleasure. An experience you are always looking for but hard to find. Congratulations for a job well done

We had dinner here on Friday night with another couple after a hell week and it was just perfect. The place was lively when we arrived and had a really warm easy atmosphere. The service was just right efficient but not officious, attentive but not overbearing, friendly and smiley. We all commented on how the meal was of nice proportions... More

Enjoyed a lazy late breakfast here last Sunday. They really do have fab food and great unobtrusive staff. Sat outside with our dogs - fresh water was also brought out for them. Highly recommend the Spiced beans and chorizo with poached egg, parmesan, fresh herbs and toast yum yum! so lucky to be a local here and have this in... More

We hadn't been to The Cornershop Bistro for ages (we keep getting pulled into Christchurch because people won't travel out to Sumner) so, on August 14th, my wife's birthday, we dined at our local. We've dined here quite often over the past 10 years or so and apart from one disappointing meal we have always been more than satisfied. It's... More

It's a while since we last enjoyed a meal at the Cornershop, a Sunday lunch was a pleasant reminder of just how good the food is. I enjoyed a delicious smoked fish dish while hubby enjoyed the spicy beans. Won't leave it so long before we go again.
