Best Japanese cuisine we have experienced

An unusual place to find Japanese cuisine of such good quality and taste, easily rivals top restaurants in Berlin and London. The staff were really friendly and the service pretty quick. The salmon sashimi was the best we have tasted, we then shared the teriyaki salmon and the beef carpaccio which... read more

An unusual place to find Japanese cuisine of such good quality and taste, easily rivals top restaurants in Berlin and London. The staff were really friendly and the service pretty quick. The salmon sashimi was the best we have tasted, we then shared the teriyaki salmon and the beef carpaccio which were both equally delicious, the salmon was tender and... More

I was quite excited to dine here cause it was rated so highly on trip advisor but was unsure about their food. My husband and I did our usual and ordered a few appetizers, sashimi and mains to share. The warm foods and sashimi all came out at once whereby we're use to the appetizers or sashimi coming out first... More

I was surprised by the restaurant decor,a little tired. But the food certainly makes up for this. I found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating with our queries over our fish choices. This is because we are keen anglers and particular when it comes to eating fresh fish.

Love Japanese places and the food here was some of the best I've had, but the cost of the meals was excessive given the slowness of the service and apparent disinterest of the serving staff. It was a busy night so some allowance had to be made for this, but we were sitting at the counter and watching the food... More

My bf and I tried Kinji on 11Dec night. To my surprised the fresh oysters were really big, creamy and delicious and went perfectly well with japanese sauce. However, the sushi was not as brilliant as I thought.

We usually never visit a restaurant twice, wether or not is has been a good experience because there are so many to try and because we always get disappointed the second time around because of our expectations. This restaurant however has been visited by us at least 3 to 4 times and we have not been disappointed and we had... More

We love the food - very authentic - and the attentive staff. You have to be careful not to over order as it is so reasonably priced. The Japanese beers are very good but is is great to have BYO wine as an option. We enjoy the atmosphere but, as in most restaurants, the noise is a problem if you... More

Modest exterior but inside is the most reliable Japanese restaurant in Christchurch. Fast, efficient service, interesting menu and a good wine list. Try the Saki flight. Favourite venue for our family.

A friendly greeting as you enter, sets the tone for the night. Service is prompt and the heated towels appreciated. Our family has eaten here many times and we like the freshness of the food. There is a good range to choose from on the menu and we have many favourites. One is a fish served as a basket, so... More

'Are you sure this is it'? I thought, purely from the street view. Stepping inside and seeing 90% Japanese patrons my foodie excitement kicked in. I was not disappointed. Personally this is a restaurant to try out Japanese cuisine for the first time or to simply indulge in the very best of Japanese food. Fresh fish, flavours, texture, fragrance and... More
