After a long day in Wellington we didn't have the energy to hunt down a cuisine of our choice and decided to just have dinner at the hotel's restaurant we were staying at. The restaurant being Whitby's at the James Cook Grand Chancellor hotel. To simplify things even further we opted for the buffet rather than the more-than-decent looking ala... More

We got a couple of grabone vouchers for buffet lunch. Booking was easy, the staff at the counter was very friendly and patience while I was loading the vouchers from my slow phone. Got seated next to the window which was good. Service from the staff was excellent, they cleared the dishes promptly. I have to say the food variety... More

There is no doubt this place is best in Wellington when it comes to family dinner for the wide choice that the buffet offers takes away any guess work. The food is generally fresh and well presented. We recently went there for the much publicised seafood night and , yes, there were fresh oysters available of which I had plenty!!... More

Had a wonderful lunch and with it being a buffet made life really simple. Had with us a 19 year old friend who is flatting in Wellington who made the most of it. Staff were extremely pleasant and our plates were cleared promptly. Lovely sitting at the window on perfect day in Wellington.

Interesting combination on the buffet -- soup and salad excellent, main dishes and deserts were just average. Presentation was perfect, but the taste was disappointingly bland.

I celebrated my Valentine's Day here. The dinner buffet for NZD 48 per person is definitely worth it. There were varieties of seafood which I loved the most. The dessert section is to die for. The service was excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive. I will surely come back. :-)

We went here for my husbands birthday for the buffet meal at $48 a head. It is cheaper if you are in and out before 7pm but this was too early for us. Our first impressions were of a nice restaurant with a man playing the piano in the bar which was nice. The food however was minimal, with one... More

Buffet dinner at Whitbys prior to Christmas is a tradition for our extended family (there were 28 of us this year). We had a great evening on Monday 19 December. Enjoyed the live piano music. This is a good "old fashioned" buffet like they used to be in the 1980's and 1990's which is why we keep coming back. The... More

I wanted to treat my parents and sister to a nice family dinner. At $48 per person I was expecting high quality food, a large selection and beautiful decor. Unfortunately my family and I were extremely disappointed. The atmosphere and decor was very dated and the view from the restaurant was disappointing. Most of the food was luke warm and... More
