Visiting Wellington, The Botanist was recommended by the staff at The Marion Hostel as a plant based restaurant to go to. I hopped on a bus to Lyall Bay and had scrambled tofu for breakfast. This was the best scrambled tofu I’ve ever had. Lots...of veges and some spicy chorizo. The flavors were awesome. The coffee was good too. Wait staff was friendly and helpful.More

we were not greeted, not seated, not given menus, I ordered an iced cofffee which never showed up and no explanation or apology was given about the coffee when we went to pay rather it was made begrudingly and slammed down.

Awesome place to go for breakfast/brunch. Lots of fantastic options from veggy breakfasts to plant based burgers. Today we opted for the poutine with battered jalapeños inc coffee and mimosa chaser. Really rate this place but try to avoid the busy peak hours.

Great food, and friendly, hard working staff. Unless you go when it’s busy. Then it’s inefficient and stressed staff, which makes the whole thing less fun.

Highly recommended. Amazing menu, staff who know their menu which is so refreshing! Scrumptious food. Presented well. Too many options but finally settled on the lasagne which was the best I’ve ever had! Bread and dips was warm and tasty. Lemon meringue tart looked too...beautiful to eat. The taste was not the sweet treat we were expecting but tasted of the olives it was made of. Five of us tried it and not one of us found it palatable enough for a second bite.More

Really nice decor and great food. We are meat eaters and didn’t realise this is a primarily vegan/vegetarian restaurant but still really enjoyed our visit and the variety of food on offer. The juice and smoothie we had were great, and my bacon loving partner...was even happy with the ‘facon’ which is an incredible compliment!More

The staff were very helpful when I called to make a quick booking at short notice and accommodated us well. My mother chose “the hash” item on the menu which was delicious, but actually didn’t include any hash brown, so it was a bit of...a misnomer, but this is common on the menu as it is easy to miss that this is a vegan restaurant from a quick glance. My eggs on toast were a bit disappointing as the eggs were burnt and had been cooked on too high a heat. They’re best cooked in coconut oil on a low heat and flipped once to cook through while leaving the yolks soft. The other items being served around us looked well cooked and presented. I probably wouldn’t come back, but am grateful that they fed us on the day of a funeral. Thank you team.More

Have been here a few times and has always been quite good however I feel the need to write a review after our experience on Saturday evening. We went out as a team and had pre booked our table. We are all foodies and take...our decision quite seriously on where we decide to eat out! From arrival the service was pretty poor. I can honestly say it was the grumpiest group of staff I have ever come across! I did not see a single smile from any of the staff the entire evening. It was very difficult to order drinks and the staff kept congregating behind the bar area talking amongst each other. The food was pretty good (although the woap cocktail was awful) but because of the staff attitude, I won’t return here. It would’ve made all the difference had the staff actually smiled, used some manners and made us feel welcome. Given the amount of choices we have in Wellington, you’d think the staff would put in a little effort to keep their customers happy!More

I was looking forward to meeting family and trying this Vegan/ veg place for brunch. It was very busy. I said I was coeliac and the inexperienced waitress asked the chef what I could have. 😳 I would have liked to choose for myself as...there were many exciting looking dishes. Sh said I could hav avocado on toast. I didn’t want that! I asked for the chicken salad. No I couldn’t have that as the chicken ( pretend chicken) was deep fried. Ok then the hash. Couldn’t have that as the potato and kumera were deep fried. Ok the salad with halloumi? Couldn’t have that as the halloumi is deep fried. Could I have the facon ( pretend bacon)in a salad- no it’s made from gluten and pea protein . The pretend salami was the same. So I had the salad, without the tofu as that too was deep fried, but I could have a poached egg! Not very exciting but I am coeliac. And this is most definitely NOT a place for coeliacs! The rest of my partners family enjoyed their meals.More

Hi there, Sorry to hear you were disappointed with your meal. In future I would recommend calling in advance to see what is available or can be made for you, because as stated on our menu we unfortunately do not cater for people with coeliacs....More

Great vegetarian & vegan options. The food was very satisfying but not heavy. The restaurant was very busy for brunch, but we received great service. Will visit again!
