Great Chinese restaurant in Paihia

So good to find a nice Chinese restaurant in Paihia, especially on the lunar New Year’s Eve. Our decision to come here for dinner is instantaneous since today we (as Chinese) always have a reunion dinner with our family. This restaurant serves A la carte and buffet. It was super busy when we got here after 6:30pm. Even so, we got seated pretty quickly. Our food also arrived quickly. The dishes are yummy and delicious. If you like some good Chinese food in Paihia, do come here to give it a try. This place also do lunch in case if you are deciding where to go for lunch.

Had the buffet which included seafood, salad, Chinese (a good variety including corn & chicken soup) and a wide variety of desserts. The food was tasty and plenty of it. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Buffet was under $40 which, considering there was no limit to how much you ate, was very reasonable, as were the charges for the drinks. Recommended.

Well worth a visit for 1st class fresh Chinese food

This place was recommended to us by our host, and we’d never have found or tried it otherwise. It’s a fairly garish Chinese in a lane way off the sea front so not the best of settings, but oh the food ! They have a buffet ( which to be fair they restock regularly & looked good enough) but we wanted fresh cooked so went a la carte ( reservation advisable). The food was fresh and gorgeous! We had half a roast duck ( beautiful), dumplings - great, then hot and spicy king prawns ( delicious, large and just spicy enough) with mixed vegetables stir fry ( absolutely superb - cooked in garlic & chicken stock) with rice. We couldn’t stop eating the food it was so good ! A bottle of half decent Chardonnay washed all this down. $150 all in - great food, taste and value. Best Chinese either of us had had for a long time. Go !

Hair in food. Extremely over crowded and cramped. Carpet appalling. We had 9 children in our party and they went to the toilet and came back to all their food thrown out. We were asked to leave after 45 minutes to free up our table for the next booking (after being told we couldn't book over the phone because they don't do bookings) staff treated us like we were eating too much food. Like we hadn't paid or something. Don't go here. Yuck

Take away tragedy

Had heard great things about this place, however, as it appeared to be quite busy we opted for take aways instead. The BBQ pork fried rice had little taste, and seemed to have been baked in the oven as there was an extreme lack of fat/lard/oil whatever. Same with the spring rolls which were cabbage filled and very unappealing. The seafood dish we ordered ($39.00) appeared to have steamed seafood in it, and was served in a slightly gelatinous salt water sauce. Very unappealing, and hugely overpriced. Not an enjoyable experience at all

I've been to this place so many times, The food was all nice I like the drink, but some waitresses always treat me and my friends like we ask for that food for free! I don't get why... I just want to let you all know. I still love to visit though.

Went with friends who were having dinner there last night. I was either not going to eat or just have an entree as I had little appetite and dont really love chinese. Made the mistake of taking one small bite of partners garlic bread and immediatly waitress came over and insisted I pay $37 for the buffet I didnt want - an expensive bite. Ps small buffet selection would have been expensive for what they had even if I wanted to eat it.

Oysters were rationed – staff brought oysters to table for each person wanting some. Were talked into the $37.50 buffet instead of a la carte. Very poor selection available in the smorgasbord buffet at the time we were there (early evening). We have been to several Chinese buffets previously in our travels and knew not to expect top quality selections but were very disappointed in what was available – mostly vegetables, quick fried finger food, not much seafood and a few meat dishes, not even any rice. Very bland, ordinary and average quality. Was quite busy at the time so obviously the locals were quite satisfied with their Chinese. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Best ever pork belly and fish bites

Love a Chinese smorgesboard, this one was exceptional. So much choice, constantly being topped up, still had salads for those that wanted, fish was the best ever, as was the pork belly pieces. And to finish off with some soft serve ice cream , and sauces, other puddings were also available. Top Notch

Website is advertised as 'Chinese Seafood Restaurant' with a buffet dinner which is misleading. Yes there is seafood - battered fish, raw prawns and oysters BUT the oysters are limited to 2 per adult which in my opinion isn't buffet at all. When asked if there was an option to have more oysters, I was told that I needed to pay for it. Adults cost $37.50 and children $2.50 per age. Children are ages 13+. We spent $157 (4 children, 2 adults) to be told that we are only allowed 4 oysters.

Loved our buffet, great selection, great staff. Very friendly people. Buffet has seafood and a wide selection of Chinese dishes, would recommend to anyone wanting a great meal. Also best fish and chips in paihia.

Best chinese food in paihai.

Decent Chinese restaurant in this small town. They have fresh hanging barbecue meals. I suggest you avoid the 4 item boxed lunch, dinner. We did not try the buffet. The crispy pork was very crispy and hot. The soy sauce chicken had good flavor. We had bbq rice plates and they do come with vegetables for under 20nzd.

Had lunch here today, average is the best we can say. We had spring rolls and steamed dumplings for entree, both ok but not special The sauces didnt taste of anything. Lemon chicken and stir fried seasonal vege with steamed rice. Lemon chicken was nice, but what was pineapple doing there? Seasonal veg was mostly Chinese mushrooms and button mushrooms with some broccoli, celery and almost carrot!! So small hard to see. All very under seasoned. Disappointing to say the least. Doggie bagged the remains in the hope it would improve. Probably not. No buffet was available today.

Staff and service was friendly and helpful. We've eaten here twice and loved it each time. We came before they were closing, so we were invited to take doggie bags home from their buffet bar. How thoughtful. At least we all know they only sell fresh food!!!

Delicious homemade food

We ordered the fish with vegetables and a portion of rice, it was enough for 2 people to eat heartily. Very tasty! The fish was delicious. Busy, quality restaurant at an affordable price. They are an option for those who want to eat real food, not fast food.
