We were at Speights for a meal last night and was served by a fantastic waitress - Jaydi! You were amazing and efficient and lovely! The place was packed with heaps of Xmas parties and large groups but Jaydi was attentive, smiley and did a...Stella job on a stress night! If you go to Speights, ask for Jaydi!! Thanks Jaydi 👍More

We celebrated the Mrs' birthday and it was an ok evening that should have been better. There were 4 of us and we enjoyed the beef burger, bangers and mash, blue cod and a steak. All the food was good quality and good-sized portions. Maybe...the best burger I've had in Napier too - that deserves a special mention. The setting is nice with views from upstairs out over the water. The staff were friendly. The food was good. But…..the night was let down by a mix up with our food. My Mrs (whose birthday we were celebrating) ordered one of the signature dishes, the Southern Man Scotch Fillet. What she received was the wrong item. There are two Scotch fillet steaks on the menu and what came was the other Scotch fillet, not the item she ordered. She ordered well done and the steak was cooked medium. I guess her steak was mixed up with another order. So what do you do? My Mrs likes her steak well done. Had we pointed out that she had been served the wrong item, it would have been at least 15 – 20 minutes for a new steak (the steaks are 300 grams, thick and to cook such a piece of meat well done and let it rest takes 15 minutes at an absolute minimum, if not quite a bit longer). By the time the new dish had been served the rest of us would have finished our meals while the birthday lady would have been left to eat hers after the rest of us had finished ours. A minute or two after bringing the steak to our table the waitress came over to apologise and acknowledged that it was the wrong dish. She did this without us saying anything so she realised a mistake had been made. She offered to take it back and replace it. That, however, would meant a long wait. 3 people would have waited to eat with the birthday lady and their food would have got cold food, or the birthday lady would eat alone after everyone else had finished theirs. It was a real disappointment and while I won’t say it ruined the night, it made what should have been a special night much less enjoyable. So my summary of Speights Ale House is similar to other bar & restaurants along that strip – good food but let down by disappointing service.More

We had 2 meals at Speights and couldn’t fault it. The position upstairs and overlooking the water was great - the staff were efficient, friendly and attentive and the food was well cooked and tasty. A more varied menu than just standard pub food is...offered and there was a lot of choice for coeiliacs which I appreciated.More

Came to Speight's and fully enjoyed our time. Staff are so friendly and accommodating. They are attentive and really make the place a happy environment. Food was awesome my partner and I loved our steaks, cooked to perfection. Great vibes and would recommend to all!!

One can drink through the whole range of Speights beers and this is appreciated. The terrace up on top is recommended and allows beautiful views over the bay. Blankets are provided if it gets too chilly. The beer is of high quality and pricing is...affordable.More

We've been here quite a few times but not for around 6 months. We sat on ground floor as upstairs was evidently full. Ordered a bottle of wine (nice Trinity Hill Merlot) and our food. Unfortunately a few of the dishes were unavailable as they...had all been sold so two of us had to settle for a second best option. Mine was more of a snack - salt and pepper squid with fries. (quite a lot of fries and not a lot of squid but quite tasty). Others had nachos (huge plate and one person left a lot of the chips), fish bites and fries (same as mine - lot of fries but not a lot of fish). Can't fault the staff - all very nice and friendly but overall possibly not as good as it's been in the pastMore

Speight is a fairly standard pub grub kind of dinner. Wait staff told us there was no space for dinner for 2 but bar learners were availble. So we enter and sit. 20mins later I get up order drinks at the bar and ask for...my own menu. 'oh she said. I'll be right over.' Another 20mins later I go back to the bar and place my drinks order and food order. The man there looks horrified and scans the room for another wait staff to help him. No one to be found. We wait. And wait. Dinner took a further 45 mins to appear. Food OK. Service from the man good but he is swamps and other girls behind the bar standing about or generally not being helpful. No bad service just bloody awful organisation. Some staff slaving and other cruising when there is help clearly needed. Thumbs down on this place for now. Could be quite nice.More

Hi, I don’t work there I just did a review but I believe weekend booking is essential as they’re quite popular. Hope that’s helpful.
