We couldn’t resist calling into Muirs while we were doing the tourist walk down the Main Street of Gisborne. It’s a proper bookshop like so many of us grew up with and now miss. The tables contain a thoughtful selection of books to tempt you,...and the staff were very helpful and pleasant. Recommended.More

Fantastic selection of books. Well set out, and easy to find what you are looking for. Shame the cafe isn't open still.

Thanks HeatherG488. Glad you enjoyed the bookshop. We'd love to have kept our cafe, but the CBD is short of daily workers these days making the cafe increasingly difficult to justify. Regards, Kim.

A superb range of books, not just new but also secondhand. We came away with six, and that was being restrained. A Gisborne gem. Note: the cafe is now closed.

Thanks EllieCambridge - so glad you enjoyed our bookshop. Restraining oneself is just as hard for staff as customers....so many good books to read.

This is NZ's oldest independent bookshop with an oldy-worldy atmosphere. Outstanding range of books for a provincial town: all the latest best sellers, magical children's books, Māori, New Zealand non fiction and coffee table. Upstairs - the best cafe in town!More

Thank you so much for this lovely review and push for people to support us. The bookshop is open under Level 3. However, our café will not reopen, sorry. Our main staff left, one to have a baby and one due to an old injury...More

This is a do not miss place. Downstairs are heaps of book, upstairs isa wonderful cafe, where you can sit outside and observe life. My favorite place in Gisborne

Incredible book store with a massive range of books. Love the cafe too, such a nice spot with beautiful windows and wooden floors. Their foods always good, love the relish they serve with the savouries. Probably the best cafe in Gisborne.

Great selection of books. We had no problem topping up our holiday reading material. Lovely atmosphere in the store as well, great for browsing as well as buying and has a second hand section as well as new books and magazines.

Good coffee in upstairs of a great bookshop with a wide range of interesting books. Worth a visit for both the book selection and the coffee and food.

Thanks PieterS90 for your review of our café. Not sure why you couldn't stay to finish eating - hope it was nothing serious for you.

Superb cafe sits atop the bookshop. Its a lovely, high-ceilings space with a huge verandah overlooking Gibson’s Main Street. Coffee and salad- and a good peruse of the shelf’s downstairs- we were happy campers
