Was so looking forward to veal (hard to find in NZ). Was covered in this pasty, tasteless sauce. Someone did come to table to ask whether we liked meals. I said my husband’s was alright but not mine, He shrugs and walks away! So why...bother asking! Odd setup for waitress station makes it difficult to get someone’s attention because their backs are to you if sitting inside. I was hoping for salt to help with the boring sauce. Tiramisu was also pretty tasteless. Affrogato coffee was good but the ice cream was a third melted before it even could make its way into the espresso! It’s a nice location. The regular waitress was very pleasant.More

We arrived just before 12pm . Only one other couple there . When we left there were quite a few people there. 2 of us ordered off the under $20 menu and one off regular menu. All under $20 thou. Food was lovely. Husband felt...the bolognasie slightly salty for his taste but mince was of good quality. Service quick and efficient.More

The food served was very stale and no taste to it. Green salad meant just lettuce. Really bad management.

Good location, fast service but very mediocre food. Even on a Saturday night a reservation wasn’t needed.

Service poor. Food barely passable. Chicken cacciatore unlike (in a bad way) any other I’ve ever had. They refused to give me a side of pasta saying it was too hard for the kitchen (even owner said that).

Early dinner here last week, had a nice outdoor side table. The pasta was so good, chicken and mushroom. Cooked perfectly. The service was excellent too. For italian food lovers would highly recommend.

Portofinos is an old established part of Mission Bay with a slightly 1970's feel. The food was good with generous portion sizes and there is a huge range of food on the menu. It is not a fine dining establishment, but it is a good...place for a family or group to visitMore

This was our second visit in three days. Food was just average but average enough for a second visit. We arrived at 435pm for an early dinner. There were 5 waterfront tables, 3 were empty and 2 were occupied with just 2 people each in...them. We requested a waterfront table but Owner/manager would not seat us there because he wanted 4 people in that table. The two other occupied tables had 2 people in them but he would not allow us to sit there. We would have been gone by 6pm as we had a flight to catch. He got very very rude with us. Said we could not sit there under any circumstance and he could not run a business that way. Everyone in the place heard him being rude and mean to us. We left and went somewhere else. We spent $100 there 2 nights ago and he knew we had come back because he was the one who sat us before. Apparently he did not want our repeat business. I would not recommend eating there. Food or service not worth the rudeness. If he is the manager, let him go as he is not good for business.More

The wife and I had a casual Friday lunch here. We arrived approx 1pm, there were a few people there then however by 1:30p, the place was empty and we had the restaurant to ourselves. Service was good, they were attentive and gave advise on...wines and food menu, the wife picked the fish of the day and I had the risotto. The serves were generous and excellent quality.More

After a great walk along the waterfront at Mission Bay we felt like a casual bite to eat. We decided on a Pizza at Portofinos. We were served by a lovely waitress with a friendly smile and she recognised us as we have been there...before. We ordered the Vegetarian pizza but asked for some chicken to be added. This was no problem. It was only a short wait...while they cooked the pizza... and it certainly lived up to our expectations when it was brought to the table. We love the thin Italian base and it was generously endowed with the toppings. We actually felt it was a healthy choice with all the spinach, olives, tomatoes, onions, pineapple, chicken and mozzerella of course. etc.More

The restaurant was very busy when we arrived at around 8.30 one evening during the week, which we thought was a positive sign, and we were ushered very quickly to a free table for four people, but unfortunately not close enough to the waterfront, so...we missed out on the views and some of the atmosphere. We hadn’t booked in advance, which might have secured a better table, but this wouldn’t have changed the outcome of the meal. The Spanish waitress couldn’t have been more friendly and efficient, but the bar and kitchen staff where overwhelmed with the number of people. As such, both the drinks and the entrees took an age to arrive. The beer (Peroni) was good, but avoid the spirit mixes (G & T, vodka & orange), as they both tasted odd. Food was okay after the long wait (about an hour after we’d arrived), but nothing special, so while we were looking forward to some nice Italian food, the meal was a bit of an anti-climax. Overall, disappointing ...More

The Restaurant is designed primarily for families and tourists, service was good but not perfect, suspected they needed one or two more table staff. My Risotto was prepared well and tasted nice.

First visit to NZ and first stop was Auckland, decided to try this restaurant to celebrate my son's birthday (we also stay in the service apartment upstairs). Food we ordered were good except the steak I had. I wanted my steak cooked 'medium' but turned...out well-done so I told the manager and the waiter... they just shrugged their shoulders and blamed the chef. ( You would wouldn't you...?)More
