Contrary to the date of the visit noted in this review, the actual visit took place on the 26th of September, 2015. Me and my two siblings walked over to a table near the bar area and were approached by a waitress (female, young –...early-mid 20’s, Asian, petite-build). She noted down our order and left us. About 20 minutes had passed when we noticed the customers who arrived after us were receiving their meals so my sister asked one of the staff members about the status of our order. The staff member (male, tall, olive - to - dark complexion, possibly Indian/Pakistani/Middle Eastern) walked through the courtyard area and over to the kitchen. He returned several minutes later and informed us the waitress that took our order had forgotten to pass it onto the kitchen staff before she left at the end of her shift, and that our meals were just being prepared. My sister asked how much longer we had to wait, to which he replied another 20 minutes. He sheepishly smiled and apologised to us then left. I was completely stunned, while my siblings were fuming. We were left wait to another 20 minutes before our meals arrived. I regretted staying out for the long wait so I had no choice but to finish it. Although we were starving, none of us enjoyed our meals and were eager to leave. My sister paid our meals at the counter (via EFTPOS) where the register was being handled by the same staff member. My sister asked him if we could get a discount because of the 40-minute wait, but he declined. The fact that this staff member did not accept our request or use his initiative to provide us with a similar offer - all because the waitress forgot to do her job - was completely unfair. We then had to pay full price ($53.00 in total). My sister then politely re-iterated to him that she thought it was appropriate to ask for a discount since we did wait 40 minutes for our meals. The staff member did not respond, as if he pretended not to have heard what she said, while he processed our payment. Yet still, we thanked him then walked off feeling extremely frustrated with the entire dining experience. Since then, I have avoided coming to Seafood Central/The Courtyard Bar and Brasserie, and warned my friends and colleagues not to dine here. The staff present on this day demonstrated poor customer service - lacking in basic communication, focus and organisation. A waste of my time, money and energy.More

Enjoyed the meal and will certainly revisit this place. Only one piece of advice will be to do better on cleanliness and hygiene all around the restaurant. Overall--8/10

Had lunch here with my family and was served great clamshell, fish and chips, and one catch of the day with paella style cuscus and salsa verde. All nicely cook, good family restaurant but not maybe a cosy evening restaurant

This place used to be amazing however it is my understanding that there has been a change of ownership. Since then the quality has dropped significantly but the price remains the same. Should have kept the old menu and maintained the same standards.

Came here for lunch after climbing the harbour bridge with my two teenage daughters. We were quite hungry so ordered a couple of dishes each, which was too much! The food was delicious and even thinking about it now makes me hungry. Recommend walking thru...the fish market before sitting down with a great choice of food. I eat here whenever I return to Auckland.More

I have bought fish here at the AFM since it opened. It must have changed owners or management since I was last there because whoever owns it now does not know how to look after fish. Fish with sucken eyes, sticky gill cavities, loss of...colour etc showed me that the fish I saw should have been in the fish meal plant the day before. Unfortunately I bought some frozen vacuum packed fillets which were way past their best when packed. AFM used to be good. Check the look of the fish before you buy, bright eyes, clean gill cavity and good colour. If not then do not bother. Chris BMore

We have eaten oysters, ceviche and grilled fish. All the food was great and tasty, but a bit scarce. All the staff was helpful, but it is a pity that there were some birds jumping on our table. It is worth a visit when you...come into the restaurant through the fish shop.More

Alongside the Seafood Central cafe/restaurant is the Sanford Fish Market which is worth a visit in its own right. The range of fresh (and frozen) fish is a joy to behold. We found the best way to purchase local fish was to buy it whole...and they then fillet/dress it for you. We visited on a number of occasions and everything we bought barbequed brilliantly. Loved the place. If you park outside and purchase fresh fish they refund the cost of your parking. Brilliant idea.More

so i came here for lunch, after being on a boat for a while. i had fish and chips for lunch, it had a hair in it. so i have a look over at the kitchen, only to see 2 people with no hats in...the kitchen. That is gross. why aren't any the chefs that are making the food to order not wearing gloves. who knows what they been doing with their hands. This is place looks so run down no wonder their is hardly any customers coming here even the cafe looks worse. i use to come here all the time when the cafe had a kitchen there. the food then was terrific which was made by a very lovely lady. now the food is too expensive and looks old in the cabinet.More

We came here for dinner our first night in Auckland. The restaurant, tucked behind the Auckland fish market auction building is not much to look at. There are plenty of outdoor tables- simple and uncomplicated. Service was ok. The waitstaff was friendly and very helpful...with our questions although they did have to go back to the kitchen to have most of our questions answered. All that aside, the fish dinners were awesome. My wife, who is gluten free, got a fantastic grilled alfonsino (a local fish) with a lentil salad and pesto which was very good. I had grilled snapper which was also really good. Although this place isn't much to look at, the food was definitely worth it and not particularly pricey.More

Dirty tables, even after cleaning. Confused staff. Untrained and unprofessional but friendly. Only three service personnell for about 200 seats. However, the Haloumi was good, the oysters questionable.

We had good service when we ate at Seafood Central. However they are one of the many restaurants who insist on serving food on mini wooden boards. My fish burger feel of the board onto the table which was a bad start. My partners surf...n turf had a slice of beetroot in it. Cut into the burger an beetroot juice flowed onto the board then off onto the table then through the slated table onto clothes. I suggest you ask if you can have your food served on a conventional plate.More

Absolute one of the best seafood places I ever had. However, it is almost like the people running the restaurant don't realize the value of it! Plastic chair, okaish service etc. If you love seafood none of this matters, e.g. tuna is from heaven!!

We liked the: - service. Attentive and reasonably fast. - the live music. - the atmosphere they are trying to create. - food came out reasonably quickly, but we arrived before the lunchtime rush. We won't be back because: - poor value for money. The...adult fish and chips was marginally larger than the kids one. The fish for the adult serving was snapper, but had been frozen. The fish used for the kids serving was very nice. - we asked them to swap out the mushy peas for a small side salad, which they refused. Disappointing given the price of the dish. - the decor was a bit tired. We should have gone 25m further long to the fish and chip shop - given how busy that was and the pricing, we'll be trying their neighbour next time. Such a shame.More
