This hands down was the best dining experience we have had in our NZ travels. We ordered the Feed Me menu with matching wines. The food, the wine, the service. Cannot fault anything. Highly recommend!

Outstanding food, service and location. We loved how every dish was explained to us, staff are very in tune with what they are serving, on point and attentive we will be back! Deb's & Scallop

totally overrated: called for reservation and was given a seat at kitchen table at 6:15 ( far too early for dinner ) however, it was interesting to watch staff preparing and serving food which in my opinion can be more hygienic ( no mask and...no gloves ) and the chef was not cooking but just directing! how was food? took their signature lobster and must say it is rather ordinary....More

We were visiting family in Auckland, a review of local restaurants suggested Ahi as a good Kiwi dining experience. We were able to book online very easily and soon we were being seated with views over Auckland Harbour. The wine and drink list were very...good. Our waiter was very helpful, the menu was very interesting and quite unique. I would recommend a couple of dishes from the snack menu, they are bite sized and absolutely delicious. A dish from the starter and main menu should then suffice, the dishes are well balanced, not too much and not too little. The presentation is something you would find at a Michelin star restaurant and a lot of thought has gone into the food combinations. If you are visiting Auckland, it would be a shame to miss out on this experience and I would highly recommend a visit. I would keep an eye on this restaurant, I would not be surprised if it is awarded a Michelin star. We will definitely return when we are in Auckland again. Thank you very much to the staff and owners for a wonderful Kiwi experience.More

I thought this would be the highlight of my trip. I had heard and read good things about Ahi. Unfortunately it fell very short of expectations. The food was very average. Very small choice. $30 for a tiny martini that had two massive olives. Oysters...advertised at $7 each but was charged $9 each without being told of the increase. There was none of the ‘OMG I want more’ with any of the dishes. I even swallowed a fish bone, that wasn’t fun. Lucky they weren’t competing on Masterchef or they would be sent home!!! Overall food wise, it was a big disappointment and I would not waste my money again. On the other hand, the staff were very pleasant. Not one we would recommend, especially for the price.More

Overall, superb. Walked in with no booking but were given a table for two in what seemed an already a full house...it was a Sunday evening. So obviously, it is a good idea to reserve in advance. Beautiful and imaginatively presented entrees and main dishes.... The bluff oysters excellent but pricy. The char grilled octopus entree very tasty but a little chewy. Had better. One of us had the fish, monkfish I think, very good and artistically accompanied with a scampi and butternut veloute. The wagyu bavette, a rather small portion size, but cooked just right. The stout onion ring and tongue excellent. Delicious crispy agria potato side dish not to be missed. All in all, a must visit, and we would definitely go again.More

Outstanding from start to finish. I had booked quite far in advance for our trip from UK, and sat us right by the window as it was a special occasion. Service from all was exceptional throughout: friendly, chatty in a nice way and really informative....All courses were stunning. Someone reviewed saying portions were small … I found them adequate and very comparable to a restaurant of his type and price. We had a small plate (almost like a ‘bar snack’ size), then three courses. They even wrote ‘Congratulations’ on an extra final desert for us! Would highly recommend and will return on our next trip. Bit tricky to find. It’s inside the ‘Harbour Eats’ food court. Take the escalators, opposite Starbucks on Queen Street, and go up to next floor and it’s far corner.More

I have eaten in many fine restaurants around the world. Ahi distinguished itself by serving me some Octopus part of which was completely inedible. A huge lump of Pumpkin could just be eaten but gave me no pleasure. Other dishes were good, some very good,...but it is always the poor dishes that one remembers. I thought Ahi was trying to hard to be a 'fine restaurant'. It certainly was not value for money. Fortunately, I did eat in some uniformly good restaurants while I was in Auckland. By contrast every restaurant I ate in Wellington was excellent. John GraceMore

Pros: 1) Nice view; 2) Fresh and delicious fish; 3) Crispy potatoes with rosemary are delicious. Cons: 1) Entry from the food court, crowded with people; 2) Dishes are kind of small, especially the appetizers; 3) The beef is just average.

Came here for a special occasion. Chose the Chef’s ‘trust me’ menu which offered a good selection of dishes. Couldn’t give 5 stars as i was given a glass of flat champagne to start with, a fresh glass was brought when i complained however the...team should have known it was flat before pouring and hoping I didn’t notice. Highly recommend the celeriac pappardelle which was sensational. The Scampi Corn Dog was also delicious. Excellent options for GF diners.More

I watched the TV series on how AHI was created from concept to realisation and decided this was a bucket list experience. I got excited by the premise of the flavours of NZ on a plate. I was on a group tour but arrived a...day early so that I could experience a meal at Ahi. Firstly, the adventure begins in finding and getting to the restaurant. Level 2 inside a large commercial complex sounds easy enough - but - was a test of endurance and orientation. In the end had to ask the concierge for directions. Wasn't expecting to walk through a food court to get to the entrance. Worth the effort to see the possibilities beyond the reception desk and first glimpse of views across the water. A very contemporary design, elevated industrial glam. Not quite casual elegance - definitely fine dining when looking at the cliental already seated. The vibe is exclusivity but without associated snobbery. Although some were dressed to impress - definitely a location for the Insta set and deep pockets. Anyway - the food is why I came here. Dining at most places has become a much refined and somewhat limited menu experience. What is on offer is exceptional, but limited choices. I guess the world of post covid is the reason - high costs and strict management of resources. I started with their signature dish Scampi corn dog. The presentation was an Insta worthy shot - and worthy of the acclaim - delicious. My main was Fish - I was offered the flounder. Dessert a peach concoction. I settled for a glass of bubbly. My dining experience was mixed. The main eventually appeared and I was somewhat disappointed that the fish portion was diminutive - petite and lonely on the plate. After removing the bones there was barely a mouthful. The main reason for disappointment was that subsequent orders of fish were a different species and a whole fish. I suspect I got the last of the flounder. Still - would have been nice to be offered a choice. The time waiting between starter and main was longer than acceptable. The restaurant was busy but not full and I was one of the first seated so was perplexed that so many diners were served ahead of me. I watched the chefs prepare and cook from my bar seat. Seeing experts at work is an education in organisation and teamwork - precision. Impressive group of chefs working their stations and serving out orders. Dessert was okay - perhaps too delicate and refined. Overall - my experience did not meet expectations. I was disappointed by the slow service, the miniscule fish, no abalone on the menu and no discernable NZ flavours - beutifully presented but no flavour sensations. The highlight was the scampi and even that was outshone by the accompanying sauce - a mayo spicy concoction that I would happily buy a mega bottle of. I sincerely wish AHI the success it strives for and is worthy of achieving. If I'm ever back in Auckland I will dine again and try meat dishes. Perhaps choosing seafood meant more delicate flavours. I left the restaurant happy that I experienced the journey but not in awe of my taste experience. Thank you to the staff who made my journey pleasant - everyone worked. Enjoy.More

Only in Auckland for a night after a 3 week trip from south to north. Went for a walk and found Ahi. I said to my wife - this place is “speaking” to me as it is the name of a species of tuna I...used to fish. Had dinner here and we’re not disappointed. A smallish menu made of NZ ingredients from the sea and land. It was absolutely delicious. A good wine and drink list.More

Excellent service and what a nice menu with only the best ingredients from all over New Zealand. Will definitely recommend anyone wanting a very nice meal to visit Ahi!

Thanks Ahi. I never want to cook another meal at home ever again. Why you ask?…because I will only be disappointed. The bar has once again been set too high after another fantastic meal at Ahi. After a wonderful evening at your establishment for our...wedding anniversary on New Years Eve 2022, we decided to return for more culinary delights in early March. It was a beautiful early Autumn evening and we had a great table by the open windows overlooking the inner harbour. What could possibly go wrong? As it out turns out, nothing could go wrong, because our dining experience could not have been bettered. We decided to share the snacks….and we should not have….not because I don’t like sharing…but because the starters were so damn delicious. My wife and I have been married for nearly 18 years but we fought over those starters like two hungry strangers on a desert island. The wallaby tartare & the lamb savoury were the stars of the snacks. Both GREAT concepts. We wisely chose not to share our starters. My wife had the Octopus and I had the Kingfish salad. Both were devoured with fervour…and yes…we stole delicious morsels from each other’s plates like brazen shoplifters. Now, the dishes to this point were wonderfully moorish, but with the arrival of our main dish, things were about to go up another notch. Enter the Wagyu Bavette dish, The main. We both ordered the Wagyu…not to stop more divorce-inducing food thieving, but simply because we both agreed that it is a culinary masterpiece. House made pastrami beef tongue, so good it should be available in takeout boxes!), lightly smoked beetroot, Stout battered onion rings (so scrumptious that I imagine the staff probably eat as many as they plate) and then the melt in your mouth Wagyu - no words!! We had been given a teaser of this dish during the degustation we had on our earlier visit. It was so good, we both knew there was only one main course we were ordering upon our return. We were not disappointed. In fact, if it was every taken off the menu, I’d take hostages until this dish was reinstated. It would be worth the jail time if that was my last dish. It was one of the meals where you just want to go back in time….and do it again…and change nothing. That’s when you know you’ve had a great dining experience. Great staff, great food, great wine, great company….what more could you ask for?…Nothing.More

Staying in Auckland for one night only wanted to get a good meal and wow this did not disappoint Probably one of the best culinary experiences I’ve ever had As other reviews said some unusual flavour combinations and individually the elements may seem strange to...taste but pair it all together and it’s a taste explosion Particularly wallaby tartar which was like a posh hamburger and peaches dessert Love how nothing goes to waste and all the creative elements like the tendon cracker Special mention to the staff, great recommendations from Michael and all the other staff were so lovely and helpful and friendly and happy to chat given I was on my own Just wonderful Thank youMore
