We had lunch at here and the food was absolutely delicious. I had the omlette with goats cheese and prosciutto and there was no skimping on the cheese or prosciutto. It was so delicious and a generous serving. The nourish bowl was also great and...full of flavour. I left my wallet and a jacket behind, and when I went back to get it, the staff saw me walk in and presented it to me before I even said anything. I tried to tip them for their generosity and and great service but they declined. Coffee was also great. Thanks guys, you're doing an amazing job.More

Take a packed lunch to Motat!!! It is not worth wasting money on this cafe. (In saying that I did not order food off the menu so this may or may not be better) Was most disappointed in the service! Had to wait standing awkwardly...at the counter with young children I was babysitting for far too long when there were two staff members right there... I understand one was making coffee but no eye contact or recognition at all! Other staff member walked several times past me waiting at the register whilst not doing any particular jobs. No acknowledgement... Could've said hello and I'll be with you in a minute... FINALLY placed an order. Then wasn't given a number or anything so was unsure whether to wait or take a seat. Milkshake was very watery and had little flavour, muffin was terrible and dry.More

Unless you are particularly organised, you're probably not going to turn up at MOTAT carrying a picnic. Therefore hunger or thirst will no doubt eventually lead you to the only eatery onsite: Araroa Tearooms. If you like prepackaged sandwiches, cardboard pottles of hot chips, and...fair to middling coffee, then this cafe will suit you down to the ground. If you don't then you may just have to go hungry, as you won't find anything on offer at MOTAT 2 besides a vending machine. The customer service was perfectly fine - particularly considering the fact that we sat at the furtherest most table from the cafe (despite us being the only customers) - thus forcing the poor girl to walk our coffees to the outer reaches of the picnic grounds. Not bad; not great, but it exists out of necessity.More

We visited the Araroa Tearooms situated in the grounds of the Motat Museum recently. The Tearooms are situated in an old historic building. There is inside and outside seating available at both front entrance and rear of the building overlooking some of the museum exhibits....Being a hot day, we chose to have an iced coffee so we are unable to comment on any meals, but our iced coffee was to our satisfaction. The iced coffee was served in a take-away container. We must comment on the young gentleman who served us. He was attentive and polite.More

Sometimes putting a cafe in an historic building is a good idea. This is not one of those times. Poor layout. Pricy food. Lack of seating suitable for small children. A negative on the MOTAT experience.

Menu items were incredibly over priced, a particular staff member didn't know what they were doing and didn't seem to understand the menu as I ordered one thing and got charged for something completely different. They brought my friend a 'toasted croissant' that was very...cold on the inside, and had to be asked to heat it again. The Chicken and Bacon Wrap I ordered was poorly put together, the smallest slice of chicken/bacon I've ever seen and packed with too many leafy greens, could not hold it together to eat without all the contents falling out, all for a hefty $14. Customer service and product knowledge should be improved for future customers.More

If you feel hungry or thirsty while at MOTAT (Museum Of Transport And Technology) then stop off at the Araroa Tearooms. They have a great variety of delicious cabinet and menu items and various coffees from which to choose, although the cabinet food does disappear...fast. We were served by both Liam and Leon, each of these two gents provided friendly, kind, fast, and attentive service, and appear to be genuinely happy in their work! That alone makes for a pleasant experience. The only concern here, as for MOTAT itself, is that the floor is extremely slippery when wet, which is a consequence of rain-soaked shoes, jeans, and umbrellas dripping water on a very smooth surface. Tread carefully, and enjoy the great food served with beaming smiles!More
