We were on our yearly trip to Melbourne to watch the tennis and each time I come down here, I walk past this place and it's full of happy looking diners. This time, I wasn't to be left behind and what a treat it was! The food is traditional, tasty and plentiful. We started with a mixed plate containing 3... More

We have spent the week searching for authentic Greek souvlaki, the ones where the juice runs down your chin and all over your cloths and it's so good you don't care. Well we found them here. Friendly staff beautiful food and Greek music what else could you want!!

Only stayed four days in Melbourne so didn't experience many restaurants but wanted to try a different "culture" every night. Stalactites was our Greek one. Walking distance from our apartment. Great décor with stalactites hanging down. Lovely squid and chicken. Very reasonably priced and good service. We didn't book just rocked up.

After having two excellent meals here on our previous Melbourne visit, we arrived on the 1st of January and headed straight down for a meal. Sadly for us, the restaurant was closed for several days and as such, we only got to eat there once this time. As always, the food was outstanding, the service prompt and friendly and the... More

We had lunch here (I had a lamb souvlaki). The food was great and the roof has some thematic decoration (stalactites). The area gets pretty full but we were able to walk in. We weren't waiting too long before being served and eating. This place supports local charity too (feeding homeless) which I really liked.

Mixed dips and pita bread then a large calamari oh so good then the large mixed chicken and lamb salad and got a small plate of complimentary hot chips oh they are good as well. Fast service great food so tasty will always go back. Highly recommended.

Friends took us here for dinner after a day sightseeing in Melbourne. We had to Queue outside to get a table but we were assured it would be worth it. Wow the Lamb in the Lamb Giros Souvlaki was beautiful, couldn't at it all. Certainly worth the wait.

Amazing and authentic food. But that's only IF the staff acknowledge you and take your order. Otherwise you will be sitting at a table for at least 10 minutes like we were. Don't go on a Saturday night though. It's too busy and the waiters will make mistakes with your order. The food was also cold when it arrived. I'm... More

Just ordered souvlaki takeaway here. Possibly the worst culinary experience ever. Nothing like the ones I have eaten in Thessaloniki or Athens...thin greasy pita...half a kilo of lettuce...tzadziki made with thin yougurt without cucumber or much garlic..one slice of tomato. The meat from the lamb was ok but the chicken one my partner got was awful ...undercooked. Chips ordered and... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
