Dropped in for a quick family lunch on recent visit. We have been here before but have never been seated downstairs. The dining area has a nice, cosy feel. We are surprised to get our wine in small soft drink glasses. Not sure if this is an upstairs-downstairs thing because we got the normal glasses before. Wine was good but... More

We took Japanese guests to visit Lygon Street & had light lunch of authentic Italian pizza. Great taste & we only had medium pizzas which we're quite enough for us. Good variety on menu to choose from. Our guests commented on the good experience & atmosphere of the Restuarant.

As a familiar of four, we each had our own dishes: pizza and pastas. Everyone enjoyed their meals - good honest food, but no more than that. The service was prompt and attentive and had an 'italian' feel in their style and approach. We'd be happy to come back if we're in the area, but wouldn't specifically travel for Tiamo... More

Cheap and cheerful. Chalk board menu of pastas and mains (eggplant Parma a winner), beer and wine, great coffee ... a lot to recommend. Sunny day is great dining and people watching on Lygon St. Indoors is dark, noisy and fun atmosphere. Love bringing people here. Fast service and friendly staff. Recent bite for two including wine under $60. Good... More

My friend and I decided to give this a try considering the reviews written. He worst part of this is that is was crowded so do arrive early to get a place quickly. We were there at about 6.30 and we had to wait close to 30 minutes for a table. Their menu does look good and I wished we... More

After reading the positive reviews I decided to walk to the restaurant with my young friend who was staying with me from Qld. The queue outside was about 12 deep but the waiter ushered us inside to a vacant table. The service was attentive but not invasive and I would have waited in the queue to eat this simple but... A lovely relaxing lunch. Delicious food. Very nice staff too. Easy access by tram from the city via Swanston St and a short walk to Lygon Street. Well worth it. Reasonably priced and BYO.

It's been a long while since we've dined at Tiamo and soon as we walked in yesterday, I remembered why. The family that owns and runs this restaurant are so incredibly rude (angry) at their customers. The waiter 'grunts' to take your order and inevitably gets it wrong, brings the wrong meals and is unhappy about rectifying. All the staff... More

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighborhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighborhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
