I can't fault this restaurant. From the welcome to the finish of the meal, everything was superb. I haven't had such warm and perfectly attentive service ( not too much .. just right) in years. The ambience was soothing and elegant. And the smells! The wine list covered all bases and the south Australian Riesling melded perfectly with our meals.... More

Finding a good Indian restaurant in Australia I think is a bit tricky. Nirankar stands out however with some great tangy Northern Indian/Nepalese dishes. Very good, friendly and attentive waitstaff and a modern Indian atmosphere.

Being British, we're quite spoilt for choice in terms of Indian food at home. This restaurant unfortunately didn't really even come close. It's not terrible by any means but it certainly isn't great. The chicken tikka starter was particularly dry. My partner and I both had a lamb madras that had abnormally fatty meat. On the plus side, the naan... More

Wanted vegetarian options and the "veg banquet" was excellent value: variety, no factory sauces, properly described and executed dishes and *really* good dhal. Gulab jamun also delicious: light and not sickly sweet.

Had dinner with a colleague on 7th of this month at Nirankar. This place has full fledged Indian menu of both vegetarian and non vegetarian courses. The taste is no different than any north Indian restaurant in Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai. Had assorted Indian Breads ( not a standard option) containing normal Roti, Garlic Nan and Normal Nan with mixed veg.... More

We were in the adina hotel across the road. So this joint was just handy for some takeaway. Now we are very fussy about our indian food, and there are not too many places that actually do real indian curries. But.....these guys did not disappoint. I only wish we had booked a table to get a good feel for the... More

Went with a work team. Very nice Indian food, enjoyed a banquet. Plenty of food for everyone, all good quality. Not cheap for a lunch, but very nice.

This may not be fair but we generally judge an Indian restaurant on the quality of the Butter Chicken, and this one was just average. It was too tomato flavoured for my liking, and the kids were underwhelmed too. On the other hand, the Lamb Rogan Josh was very good. No complaints either about the size of the servings or... More

This restaurant serves terrific Nepalese and Indian food. Try the Nepalese as it's harder to get good Nepalese food. It was our first time in this restaurant so we sought guidance on quantities. We were misled, being told to order rice when we already had Naan bread. The rice and the bread were perfectly cooked but we had way too... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
