Try to get here whenever we get to Melbourne and managed to again today. Home cooked pasta, charcuterie, divine sweet treats and superb coffee in a vibrant place oozing Italian charm with stool seating and fast nonchalant service. My mum makes a fantastic Balkan strudel so I can say the Italian version here at $4 a serve is worth every... More

Little like stepping back in time. But the coffee is quick and great tasting. I always visit this place when in Melbourne.

Each and every time my partner come to Melbourne, a trip to Pellegrinis is always on the itinerary. If you're looking for real, authentic, hearty Italian food at a reasonable price - look no further. Made fresh to order by the little Nonna's in the kitchen, we have never been disappointed. My partner will always order the spaghetti marinara and... More

A fabulous atmosphere , been in Melb since 1954 . Fabulous Nona cooked food . One of the best Lasagne's , also minestrone soup . Small serves... More

Old style bar seating, not sleek or up-market, some seats overlooking the preparation and serving area. You feel as f you are in the midst of it all. Small menu but great food. I chose minestrone - thick with vegetables and beans, served with 2 generous chunks of fresh bread. Yum. And the only place I know that serves sugarless... More

Went to this little gem after a very cold night at the MCG watching our team lose. Heard great things so went in. Arrived at 11pm place closing at 11.30pm. Very friendly staff so welcoming. They advised that as they were due to close very shortly only had a couple of options for dinner, fine by us. We had one... More

Amazing place! A must visit. True authentic and old school. Just simply done right! This place has stood the test of time for a reason.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
