There was a place in Venice called Dal Moro's, where you would brave any condition of weather to cue half-way up the street, just for a 2 Euro, cardboard takeaway container filled with the most authentic, original and tasty pasta and sauces on the planet ... or so I thought. Imagine my joy to find a place right here in... More

Contrary to other posts, we got friendly service. The food, however, was average at best. Likely a great small place that is now advanced preparing food in quantity so it has little to no flavor. The tiramisu dessert was not edible.

....bjt if you like Italian home cooking there can't be anywhere better. It's not flash. It's sit at the bar or on a trestle table in the kitchen where Mamma cooks. An oven full of lasagne, the range covered with pots. All totally delicious.

Just like having a cup of coffee in Italy. They told us that they start their business in the 60s and the original Pellegrinnis now is back in Italy. Very busy during lunch time.

Attended Pellegrini's on a Sunday for lunch. Two fluent - speaking Italians and two of us not. Liked the old, original decor and Italian fluent staff. Adds to the authenticity. Criticisms: why no Coca-Cola? Why no menu? Why do we have to order at the counter? After waiting and realising no one comes to the customer to take an order,... More

Went for lunch on a Saturday. The service while effiecent was not overly friendly. We ordered 3 pastas and a soup and were charged $70. The waiter who told us the price had just arrived at work and did not even know what we had as the plates had been already removed.I think they just make up prices as they go along.... More

Just ran across this place by accident. We were seated in the kitchen, a first for me, and proceeded to order our food. No menus, just a description from the host. None of this is typical, but it was fun. And we thought the food was quite delicious.

When you ask the price of small vs large pasta plates and waiter tells you $17 or $19, you dont really expect to be charged $26 instead for 1 large. At time of payment it really felt like they were making up any price they wanted, this is a tourist trap and the pasta is mediocre, not at all worth$26... More

We popped into "Pellos" after a late night dinner at a local Chinese restaurant. The place is legendary as one of the first real Italian coffee joints in Melbourne and it's easy to see why. We only had coffee, but it was delicious and served fast. I would love to try some food there one day as I hear it... More

have been to pellegrinis many times! Love this place it is a Melbourne institution. 3 generations of our family have been going here over the past 40 years and it is still the same. We now take our kids to carry on tradition. Great coffee and granita!

Thank 75ks

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
