This place hasn't changed in 40 years. Good food, charming service. It appears there are regulars who treat this place like their family. The boss knows what to order for them. Food was homestyle and reasonably priced.

I know I am romantic, as this was the first date with my husband, but I have been frequenting this establishment for 40 years. The food has been consistently great (authentic Italian), the coffee divine, and the service great. The owner is so charismatic, even now (after 40 years for me), and always has and words for everyone that visits.... More

A friend recommended this so I checked it out. Took me awhile to work out how it all worked but I got the hang of it soon enough. Service was good and the food was pretty good too. We'll be back when we're in Melbourne again.

Absolutely an institution in Melbourne, especially for coffee and cake. Staff are friendly and efficient. Coffee was excellent.

Loves this classic, true authentic Italian restaurant in the middle of Melbourne CBD! Service is friendly and super quick, which is great for tourists if you're after a very satisfying meal at a reasonable price. Menu doesn't change, so Pellegrinis has perfected the traditional Italian dishes over the decades. There are also a great range of cakes, generous size portions,... More

You could so easily walk past this coffee shop but you will regret it. This place is an honour to be served in and is a MUST VISIT on Melbourne's coffee trail. A true Jewel.

I ordered the carbonara and my partner ordered a lasagna. The lasagna tasted a little like school lasagna with no depth of flavour to it other than the tomato. The carbonara was watery and lacked any sort of flavour at all! Couldn't even finish my meal. Won't be returning.

This is a very old school pasta restaurant that has not changed over time. Very fresh pasta and wonderful coffee served from the stools overlooking the counter that has not bowed to fashion. Never know who you might meet there as it is a favourite with visiting chefs.

Atmosphere, food, coffee, staff - it is unique and authentic. Small, noisy and full of character it is a must go when in Melbourne. So Italian, so Melbourne.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
