We ate here last night, mainly vegetarian dishes and one with prawns. It was all delicious. The place is packed with Thai customers, testament to the high quality of the food. BYO is $5 charge.

Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. Be warned that medium in chilli basil dishes is hot even for experienced spicy food eaters. Plenty of chill seeds. We found the satay sauce a bit sweet but the chicken satay stick were tender and lovely flavoured. Good value.

A regular to this resto. Love the tom yum seafood. The salted crab salad is also always on our list.

The restaurant is extremely popular with lots of Thai people. Upstairs and down available. We sat upstairs - jam packed with people and very noisy. The food was ok. Green Curry chicken ok. The crispy pork belly - a fail. Tough as rubber and not enjoyed at all.

What a great thai restaurant! Food exceptionally good, especially red curry duck and prawn cakes. Lemongrass ginger tea served in extraordinary elephant cups. Living in hong kong we had fabulous thai restaurant and over the last ten years we have never found the same quality thai food until today.

One of the Favourit Thai restaurant, good crowd And better be there on time to avoid your booking get cancelled. If you are a Thai Food lover, good variety of menu available. Negative side is no beer or wine available and they will charge corkage if you bring your own.

Why surprisingly good? Firstly, I am not a fan of the area, too crowded, parking is not easy and it is generally noisy. So, I was not expecting a very good restaurant smack in the middle of the lower end of Lygon St. Secondly, I was surprised by the fact that the restaurant had a constant line of people waiting... I have eaten in many Thai restaurants and having travelled to Thailand numerous times, Ying Thai 2 never fails to impress. From their classic noodles (moo tom yum is legendary) to a feasts with friends their food are authentic, spicy and in generous servings. My personal favorites are the Tom yum seafood, yam sam grob (seafood with pork skin salad)... More

Tasty food, good value for money, fast service. Free flow of white jasmine rice and water. The day we were there was the coldest summer day in Melbourne in a decade. The restaurant was full but we managed to get a table outside, which was fine as there were heaters. There were many other restaurants along Lygon Street which were... More

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighborhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighborhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
