This is one of those restaurants in Melbourne that is very casual and one of those places you stop buy for a quick lunch....and when I mean quick, the service is VERY quick. You will order the meal and within 2mins it will be prepared (maybe even 30seconds). It is fresh, hot and beautiful to eat. I actually cannot fault... More

I was late and I was starving. Everywhere around me, the restaurant was crowded. I went inside Don Don and I have been very surprised by the quality of the food. It's very quick and delicious the chicken teriyaki with rice and ginger are great for 9AU$. Its a kind of Japanese fast food. No alcohol but good plain water.

I visited the resto after a long traveling day and a walk in the city. My guide book indicated it as excellent place and I must confirm it. I had a beef udon soup for 9.80$, excellent and super abundant. Take away option is also available, but I had it on place.

Backpackers and international travelers to Australia know that this country isn't really the place to snag a bargain on food prices. Especially is Mcdonalds is 2-3 times the price as it would be in the States. However, Dondon is a pleasant surprise and a dose of normalcy for us weary budget-conscious visitors to Melbourne. And not only is everything on... More

We only had a short time before going to a show. My companion had been to Don Don previously and recommended we try it. Great value Japanese food ordered from a blackboard. Plenty of choice and very reasonably priced. We both are well and made our next appointment with time to spare. Delicious eating for the budget conscious

Very affordable, around $10 a "don" (rice dish) of your choice, seafood, chicken, etc, and as well a very filling portion!! the seemingly "small" bowls are deceiving, but definitely a very filling meal well worth the money, very quick service as well!

This place has been around for a while. Initially it used to be on swanston st and was a tiny little place. Now it's a much bigger, and comfortable place. The food has always been consistent, tasty and value for money. Their curry dons are fantastic and very filling. Love the pickled ginger and chilli powder on top. Only drawback... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
