Our family dinner at The Press Club was to celebrate my daughter's thirtieth birthday. We selected the six course degustation menu with matching wines. Service was excellent, the food was remarkable and we were genuinely surprised by the delicious flavour combinations, which work much better in reality than on paper. This quality of cooking is a genuine artform and we... More

Fantastic ambiance and lighting created a stunning atmosphere. Staff were polished and ultimate professionals who really knew their craft. Most courses were lovely with a couple being a taste sensation. Each course is extremely small so you really need to do 6-8 courses. The only part which unfortunately overshadowed the evening was we were sitting in the booth by the... More

We all opted for a surprise dinner menu of six course and the selection was very tasty. The desert was terrific not only could you eat it, it was also a feast for your nose and eyes - sokolata. A must try! The disappointing element of the whole experience is that we were rushed out when they served our very hot... More

A well appointed and intimate venue for a special occasion. A narrow thoroughfare down the centre of this small restaurant means that you do get a preview of all the dishes as they come out which is not necessarily a good thing. We also had a little service bay behind our booth which was a bit distracting. I've done a... More

Last night my family and I went there to celebrate my bday. The place itself is ok, fancy decor but so tiny, the ceiling is low, it made me feel like I was inside an airplane. The staff were nice and very polite but some of them had a very strong French accent and was hard to understand them. The... More

Looking forward to this one but was let down by cost overall . Over $450 for two people (5 small courses and a couple of drinks each) . Decor was lovely , they have Funky private dining booths and interesting presentation on food. The Food was good, but we left a bit hungry. Nice for a special occasion.

We had an amazing night and the 6 course menu was impressive in every way. The wines to match were superb. Service was just outstanding. The company was the best I have ever had. A special night for the two of us and a once in a lifetime night.

Sunday lunchtime drew in a good crowd. Friendly, knowledgeable service from very busy staff. Great plates to share and wine list. The only disappointment was the grilled octopus. Wood fired spit chicken amazing. All other dishes which were tasted had a great mix of flavours and textures.

Awesome experience with friends - do the wine match - it is worth it - beautiful Greek wine. The desert was outrageously good!

Wow, wow, wow! Wife surprised me with my birthday and it amazed us every step of the way. First time doing full degustation menu and it was just awesome! Too many good things to mention. Great service and a lovely setting. Melbourne is lucky to have you George! Your staff were amazing! Thanks!!

Description
George Calombaris' flagship Melbourne restaurant for MAdE Establishment has cemented itself on the global dining scene with its unique Modern Greek cuisine. In October 2006, the four directors joined together to form MAdE Establishment, and opened their first venue, The Press Club Restaurant and Bar. This began a new era for George Calombaris and cemented his place as a culinary star for his Modern Greek Cuisine - never seen before Melbourne; where modern twists to traditional Greek cuisine has put this restaurant on the global map and has diner's wanting more. The Press Club seats 38 guests in individual booths. Next door to The Press Club at 52 Flinders Street, is Press Club - Projects, George Calombaris' creative and development kitchen. This space can be booked privately for up to 8 guests and offers a completely interactive experience as the chefs experiment with new dishes to make the menu in The Press Club.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
