Special occasion (birthday) lunch here recently - The Press Club has been on our must-dine list for some time. Full disclosure, I am not a degustation fan, but was still keen to give it a go. Service was both prompt but also unassuming and not in your face, important for the atmosphere you expect at a restaurant like this. We... More

The moment that you step into The Press Club, the service provided was excellent. We ordered the 4 course dinner but in-betweens, we were provided with starters, palate cleansers, etc. Ended up with 7 course instead of just 4. Each of the items served was perfectly cooked and decorated. Each course served held it's own. Though the quality of the... More

Our group of four travelled to Melbourne for the weekend and had booked dinner at the Press Club. We had a fabulous seat which gave us a window into the kitchen. The service was a high standard from the opening drinks trolley to the final bites of deserts on the clothes line. We really enjoyed the little selection of food... More

This is a highlight of degustation and should not be missed. There was a small group of ladies and we loved everything that the experience offered, this is not just a meal

We did the 5 course meals with matching wine. The sommelier gave a good explanation of each matching wine. The food was surprisingly good and the service was impeccable. We will definitely visit again.

From the drinks trolley to start, and then through the wonderfully prepared 6 course degustation lunch, the experience was fantastic. The quality of the food was excellent, some of the best produce we've had in a long time. The lamb terrine was superb. I still can't think of anything negative to say about any of the dishes on the day.... More

We went with friends visiting from Brisbane and had the 4 course meal with matched wines....it was a truly special evening and worth the cost. Really interesting but "real" food of exceptional quality...and great service

Great atmosphere ! Perfect for a special occasion ! You can choose how many courses you would like to have. Even if the portions are tiny, the very skilled waiters and chefs are able to satisfy your palate and your eyes with little tasting plates in between one course and the other. You can have a good ideas of the... More

Shared an absolutely brilliant lunch degustation with friends at The Press Club. From start to finish the dishes were exquisite but I thought the pork belly was the highlight. But again, you couldn't find a fault through dishes 1-6. Wasn't sure about the music at first as the 80's rock was an uncomfortable reminder of my socially awkward high school... More

Treating my friend for a birthday meal. We tried Vue De Monde last year and thought of something Greek this time. Love the aperitif drinks which included of the de agitation and love presentation of the food on the table pairing with wine. Limited seating area, advise traveller to make reservation few days ahead.

Description
George Calombaris' flagship Melbourne restaurant for MAdE Establishment has cemented itself on the global dining scene with its unique Modern Greek cuisine. In October 2006, the four directors joined together to form MAdE Establishment, and opened their first venue, The Press Club Restaurant and Bar. This began a new era for George Calombaris and cemented his place as a culinary star for his Modern Greek Cuisine - never seen before Melbourne; where modern twists to traditional Greek cuisine has put this restaurant on the global map and has diner's wanting more. The Press Club seats 38 guests in individual booths. Next door to The Press Club at 52 Flinders Street, is Press Club - Projects, George Calombaris' creative and development kitchen. This space can be booked privately for up to 8 guests and offers a completely interactive experience as the chefs experiment with new dishes to make the menu in The Press Club.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
