The seating arrangement was terrible. We were a party of 6 sharing a bench top with with 2 other people. The high seats were uncomfortable and the narrow walkways meant that I was getting bumped by patrons and waiters every few seconds. The waiter was most unhelpful when we asked about the choices and the serving sizes. There was no... More

It's hard to explain the small subtle differences that really make a meal an experience, but to me the Press Club has found them all. From a curtained entry almost with a reveal, small peek through windows into the kitchen, and comfortable seats with some ideal background music. And that's just the venue! Staggering quality of meals, too hard to... More

We have had the most amazing experience at the Press Club tonight! Could not fault a thing. Service, food and ambience have been absolutely fantastic. Would thoroughly recommend it

We went to the Saturday 6 course tasting experience. We just could not fault the experience. From the waiter/waitress's to the food to the ambiance. We really do not mind paying that little bit extra for such an overall wonderful experience.

Portions were smaller than the old Press Club, the value just isn't there anymore. We had 6 courses and paid extra $25 for 3 oyster course and we were still not full. The flavors were good, except for the oyster ice cream. Probably wouldn't go back, it's one of those places where you try once.

The booking process was moderately officious indicating initially only early or late sittings were provided. I conveyed the vegetarian preferences of one our party which was accepted yet the house staff on arrival had no recollection despite your high staff numbers for a 32 seat restaurant. At telephone booking, I requested & was offered an email copy of a recent... More

The food was very good and the wine was well matched, however for the price paid this can only be considered 'expected'. There were two things in particular that I took issue with: first was the price of the extras that at the time of accepting I was not aware were additional to the degustation menu which mounted up considerably... The food is good and some of it is really good although none of the dishes was OMG. But certainly lots of effort had gone into presentation and innovation. It is fun and interesting and tasty. Portions are small so take into account when you order. The place and design are very good. The booths work nicely. Service is good... More

We chose the 9pm sitting to avoid feeling rushed on what we hoped would be a food and wine voyage of discovery. We chose correctly! We had the nine course chefs selection with matching wines and couldn't be happier. Professional and friendly staff (in the right ratio), perfect food presentation and a night of unexpected flavours and combinations. Staff spent... More

We had the 9pm seating, left past midnight....no rush 😃 The food was inventive and perfectly cooked, just enough to feel good and not like you overeat, the staff could answer all questions about the food and the wine pairing was exceptional. The decor is modern and the seating is suitable for groups of 2 to 6 people. Highly recommended... More

George Calombaris' flagship Melbourne restaurant for MAdE Establishment has cemented itself on the global dining scene with its unique Modern Greek cuisine. In October 2006, the four directors joined together to form MAdE Establishment, and opened their first venue, The Press Club Restaurant and Bar. This began a new era for George Calombaris and cemented his place as a culinary star for his Modern Greek Cuisine - never seen before Melbourne; where modern twists to traditional Greek cuisine has put this restaurant on the global map and has diner's wanting more. The Press Club seats 38 guests in individual booths. Next door to The Press Club at 52 Flinders Street, is Press Club - Projects, George Calombaris' creative and development kitchen. This space can be booked privately for up to 8 guests and offers a completely interactive experience as the chefs experiment with new dishes to make the menu in The Press Club.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
