Not the first time I have been here and each time have really enjoyed it. A handy selection of Sake to add to the flavours. Great sashimi. It's a small place and you could easily miss it for the better promoted places in china town but the food is great and prices are reasonable. Would recommend and Wouk go again... More

Nothing specifically wrong with the place but it didn't float my boat. The place looks like it hasn't had money spent on it for a while and the menu options where less than inspired but tasty. That said the beef filet was less than good quality but the seafood looked good. Service was attentive but a bit odd. Plates where... More

Didn't know what a stone grill was but I am really glad I have sampled the experience and will do it again. Located on the main drag in Chinatown you get all the hustle and bustle and energy. It is not a big restaurant and we hadn't booked but they managed to fit us in? The quality of the food... More

Walked in without a booking on a Saturday night and was full in a matter of minutes. A Japanese restaurant in the middle of china town. The service of the staff is excellent, from taking the order down to the service & explaining in detail. Not an expensive place to dine, the quality of the food was excellent.

Excellent food. We had the $22 lunch. The tasting plate was great. The main course OK. rather too sweet for my taste. But I would certainly go again. Though having the owner sit at a table in the middle of the restaurant 'doing the books' was a bit strange....

Walked in without booking-fortunate, as it became busy very quickly. Sunday night is MEAT special, with a small entrée & large chunk of red meat for main. The meat comes out on sizzling thick stone platter, and continues cooking, so your preference is catered for. Staff very accommodating and helpful, with timing superb. The Japanese menu includes delicious fresh seafood,... More

I have to say that if you ever get the chance to eat at Ishiya Stonegrill Restaurant and you DON'T eat the three steak dinner, you're insane. That is easily the best tasting steak meal I've ever had and the experience only adds to the enjoyment factor. Slowly cooking your own steak to perfection while experimenting with the four dipping... Visited this restaurant on the last night of my Melbourne trip and never regretted! The beef was awesome and because its stonegrilled by ourselves we got to control how well we wanted our beef to be cooked. The staffs were was prompt and courteous. Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
