It's the first time I've been for lunch and with a bunch of friends. Needless to say, food and service was great!! Every single one of us (and there were 10) thoroughly enjoyed the food! Best coffee also, as one of our friends had 3 over lunch! Top notch!!

Really enjoyed our meal here. The service was exceptional. Food terrific. Location memorable. Modern Australian dining at its best, along with a good selection of drinks.

My expectations were quite high. The service was excellent however the food did not live up to the rap!! Perhaps it was personal - we chose the two entree specials which included little crab and pork dumplings and beef tataki . The beef was too thick was not cut As thin as I would have liked . However the dumplings... More

We sampled two desserts and a cheese dish which were all simply amazing and surprising! The multiple flavours were distinctive and complimentary. We sat perched on bar stools overlooking the Art Centre across the river-beautiful!

Taxi kitchen fulfils the stereotype of those "huge plate tiny portion" restaurants which we all love to hate. My $30 candied pork entree was literally a cube of over cooked pork belly half the size of a match box toy car plated on a platter large enough cater a family BBQ. The mains were worse. $55 duck leg served with... More

I was one of a party of eight that had dinner at this restaurant last night and it was fantastic. The service was excellent as each wait staff were friendly and nothing was a problem. They recommended a watermelon cocktail which was so good we had to have two !! The food was excellent, well presented and cooked to perfection.... More

Lovely service and delicious food. I was very impressed and appreciative of the staff and chef's efforts to make my birthday so special. Our request to sit at the bench by the window was accomodated so it felt like we were in our own bubble with amazing views to acompany the beautiful food and wine. Just lovely.

Let me start my review by stating that every train station in the world has a seedy side. The food, wine choice and service at Taxi Kitchen are excellent but when you are over the road from Flinders St station and beside Federation Square watch out after dark so maybe try for lunch. Melbourne currently has a problem with gangs... More

For a 180 degree view of Melbourne's city skyline, Yarra River and Arts Precinct, journey to Taxi Kitchen in Federation Square's Transport Hotel. Hosting cocktail events, a la carte dining, pre-show drinks and boasting three private function dining rooms, Taxi Kitchen dazzles guests with views through floor to ceiling glass windows complemented by earthy tones, indoor greenery and natural light for a clean, semi-alfresco feel. Playful menu items provoke a certain inquisitiveness of guests, charmingly presented on a bed of black pebbles, rustic wooden boards or in colourful, textured dishes. Delight in any or all six courses from seared scallops with red radish, smoked chilli mayo and katiafi to Wagyu porterhouse with creamed potato and jus gras - just be sure to leave room for dessert

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
