For years I walked past the Taxi Kitchen, being a part of the Transport Hotel kinda put me off. What an idiot I was I have been missing this fabulous place for years. I have now been several times each visit a delight to the taste buds and the view is wonderful. Wine list good and the staff they are... More

We chose taxi for a 5pm dinner before wandering around the city with the kids and to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were asked when we booked if there was any special occasion so well done for this.. it often adds that sense of personal service to a large restaurant. Sadly there was no mention of this beyond the booking.... More

I lucked out in finding this place after we had walked around the CBD on a Thursday evening being turned away by place after place that was full. Although it’s a bit weird going up the rather odd stairs to the restaurant, when you get there it is great. We arrived at 9pm after walking round for more than an... More

Went for dinner with my best mate. I was here a few years ago and remembered it being posh with sommelier etc. This has changed. It's now much less formal. It's on the first floor of a building at Federation Square, so easy to get to by train or bus. There is a lift but it's super tight space to... More

Great dinner tonight at Restaurant Taxi Kitchen (second time this week!). Perfect service, by waiter Florian, delicious starters and main course (slow cooked lamb shoulder) and special thanks for pastry chef Alex with his amazing desserts. Perfect value for money!!

Many people told us to try Taxi few years back and we did, for this trip. Appetizers were good. Oysters were a little overladen with toppings. Can be less. Soba noodles were good! But a tad to salty. One thing that surprised me. The chef has no idea how to cook his steak to the right doneness. ALL out steaks... More

For a 180 degree view of Melbourne's city skyline, Yarra River and Arts Precinct, journey to Taxi Kitchen in Federation Square's Transport Hotel. Hosting cocktail events, a la carte dining, pre-show drinks and boasting three private function dining rooms, Taxi Kitchen dazzles guests with views through floor to ceiling glass windows complemented by earthy tones, indoor greenery and natural light for a clean, semi-alfresco feel. Playful menu items provoke a certain inquisitiveness of guests, charmingly presented on a bed of black pebbles, rustic wooden boards or in colourful, textured dishes. Delight in any or all six courses from seared scallops with red radish, smoked chilli mayo and katiafi to Wagyu porterhouse with creamed potato and jus gras - just be sure to leave room for dessert

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
