The Taxi Kitchen is located directly opposite Flinders Street Station in Federation Square. The ambience, the food and the service ate all first class. It has a faux industrial look that works well.

With the wide variety of great food on offer in Melbourne, I was underwhelmed here. It wasn't terrible, but for the prices, there are much better options around. It seems to cram many people into what becomes a noisy space. Our waitress had lots of trouble hearing us. She did try to look after us as best she could. Food... More

The food was excellent; imaginative abut not over wrought. The staff were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Excellent view of the city.

Found Taxi Kitchen in one of the brochures and it described it as a casual spot for dinner. Not quite. The food is excellent although a little pricey if you were hoping for cheaper. During the day you would get views of the city and Federation Square and then at night there are the lights. Their pulled lamb dumplings are... More

We had lunch here on a Wednesday. We were staying close by and it was raining so we booked and wandered over. The fit out is really lovely and sitting down and taking it in was really lovely. The menu was good - we struggled to single out what it is we wanted. We were a group of four, two... More

When we first arrived we were greeted very warmly' like an old friend. Sat at the bar to wait for the rest of our party then taken to our table which we had requested by the window. The food is fantastic, wine list good. The wait staff terrific. Reasonable priced. The atmosphere has a real buzz without it being intrusive.... More

Sunday lunch in September was a good time to celebrate at Taxi Kitchen. There was plenty of room as people were startled away from the city as there was no football in Melbourne. But the service from our waitress was good. She knew what the food was about and gave clear opinions. And the food was excellent. My crispy duck... More

We had the mushroom ravioli and saddle of lamb which were both tasty but as per my title. The ambience is good up high in the heart of town. The service was pretty slow, it was a Sunday night, and it took ages just for wine.

I pleasant meal with great views and excellent service with a bit of personality. Get a seat by the window if possible to appreciate the venues star attraction... the view! I have not been to Taxi in sometime, the food was good (without being exceptional). The staff were fantastic though and exceeded expectations.

Had a lovely lunch here with my wife one sunny Saturday. We really like the modern, open and light decor and views over Melbourne. We also thought the service good, the food tasty and value okay. I'd be appy to recommend ithis place to anyone visiting Melbourne who was interested in food and wasn't too price sensitive.

Thank M H

For a 180 degree view of Melbourne's city skyline, Yarra River and Arts Precinct, journey to Taxi Kitchen in Federation Square's Transport Hotel. Hosting cocktail events, a la carte dining, pre-show drinks and boasting three private function dining rooms, Taxi Kitchen dazzles guests with views through floor to ceiling glass windows complemented by earthy tones, indoor greenery and natural light for a clean, semi-alfresco feel. Playful menu items provoke a certain inquisitiveness of guests, charmingly presented on a bed of black pebbles, rustic wooden boards or in colourful, textured dishes. Delight in any or all six courses from seared scallops with red radish, smoked chilli mayo and katiafi to Wagyu porterhouse with creamed potato and jus gras - just be sure to leave room for dessert

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
