The food was very good, (try the risotto nero - outstanding!), but the waiting time for the main course was extremely long, despite the fact that the restaurant was't very busy. I dread to think what it would have been like if there had been lots of customers! Could do better!!

It is about 15 years since my previous visit to Syracuse, mostly because I no longer work in the city. When my wife and I were both in town and I heard that Philippa Sibley had taken over I knew that it was time for a return. I was not disappointed. We chose from the express lunch menu ($35), which... As a group of 6 we had the express menu for lunch. The asparagus soup with crab and blood orange was unexpected and delicious. Risotto was tasty, and the pannacotta was silky and the gelato tasty. The rest of the table shared a cheese platter for dessert which looked lovely. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. Lovely place, will... More

The food was really good. Phillipa Sibley has done a great job here. The desserts are a highlight. Service was very efficient and friendly. The staff are very welcoming and make you feel at home. The venue is unusual and could do with a bit of a refurb. All in all a greta night.

The menu was lovely plenty of flavour very much a quality meal. The service was 5star very attentive wouldn't have known they were there. Prices quite reasonable at the higher end but worthwhile with a great wine list to choose from. Good atmosphere plenty of room felt very comfortable.

What a great little restaurant. The food was lovely, service brilliant, nothing was too much trouble, even to making my favourite cocktail with my husbands instructions. It was so nice to go somewhere where all the staff knew their product be it food or wine. I would highly recommend Syracuse, we are still talking about the lovely evening.

A great dining venue with the added bonus of superbly attentive staff. They also have a very extensive wine list. The price listed for a nip of Johnny Walker black was $40 however I felt it was a misprint. The ambience is good although late at night the nightclub next door starts up and the noise filters through. All in... More

Having eaten at this establishment some years ago and thoroughly enjoying all that it had to offer. I was bitterly disappointed on this occasion in the overall service and food quality esp given the price point. I appreciate that I attended the restaurant at a late time in the evening 9pm and that kitchen was winding down, there should be... More

I have to admit I am an fan of chef Philippa Sibley, so this is largely why we came along to this stalwart of the Melbourne dining scene. I'd forgotten what a nice space the restaurant offered, with it's French salon style charm. We were not disappointed. We shared several entrees including the chicken liver parfait and accompaniments, plus the... More

First time to this restaurant with some friends. The service was excellent with the waiter to be very knowledgeable about the food and wine. Entrees we had soup which is not something I normally order. It was carrot soup and it was stunning. The texture was not thick nor was it a thin runny soup - just perfect. It had... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
