We visited for Valentine's Day & savoured the special 7 course degustation menu with matched wines. Philippa Sibley continues to excel as a chef. The food was delicious & cooked perfectly & the sommelier was extremely well versed in the extensive wine collection. Hard to choose from the 7 courses but I think the highlights were the Fior di Latte... More

Our first evening in Melbourne. Accidentally found ourselves in Syracuse. Wonderfully surprised by creative, tastefull and apparently simple dishes. Nothing short of 5*. Immediately ordered Philippa Sibley's New Classic book on line.

AGFG recommended, so we picked it to celebrate our anniversary while visiting Melbourne. Right from the start (after making the booking) until the very end, the experience was perfect. I had a call from the restaurant leading up to the date to check if we had any special needs to help us celebrate. When we arrived, you could tell staff... More

A couple of us sat down out the front for a business lunch without announcing ourselves, the look of sheer panic on the waiter was a picture as he thoiught someone was not being attended to. We had a look at the express menu and then decided on the a la carte, although funnily enough ordering from the express for... More

Sure the food was awesome - really really nice. Sure the building was old and beautiful and sure there was a massive wine selection. But what made this experience awesome was the fantastic staff. Flo - the French sommelier was so knowledgeable, really friendly and made our experience really enjoyable. We told him what we were looking to drink and... More

My birthday, so I wanted somewhere in the city to celebrate. A great choice, Syracuse was delightful - great service, fabulous food and lovely surrounds. Would definitely recommend for someone looking for innovative menu and excellent service.

Surprisingly there was no vegetarian main course option on the menu. I chose the squid and scallop risotto, not realising it would be black, so much so that it makes your lips, teeth and anything else it touches black and takes time to disappear. I wouldn't order it again. Some of the other meals at the table looked ok. The... More

It's a wine bar/restaurant. When I asked to taste one of the wines, I was told 'No. it's too expensive. You are not allowed!' Well, that certainly made me feel like a valuable customer - NOT! So we ordered their most expensive Pinot noir by the glass - it was tasteless and not worth the money. Went home and drank... More

The food was very good, (try the risotto nero - outstanding!), but the waiting time for the main course was extremely long, despite the fact that the restaurant was't very busy. I dread to think what it would have been like if there had been lots of customers! Could do better!!

It is about 15 years since my previous visit to Syracuse, mostly because I no longer work in the city. When my wife and I were both in town and I heard that Philippa Sibley had taken over I knew that it was time for a return. I was not disappointed. We chose from the express lunch menu ($35), which... Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
