Lunching with friends at Syracuse restaurant, Bank Place, the property decor was interesting in its historical sense. Service was prompt and pleasant, but there were few diners so a busier day might have been different. There was an express lunch menu for either two or three courses at $35 and $45 respectively. The a la crate menu was slightly broader.... More

My husband & I ate here on Saturday night. So happy that I found this restaurant. The food was beautifully presented, the flavour of every component on each dish was superb. The service was attentive & friendly. The added bonus was eating food by Phillipa Sibley. She is amazing. Overall we highly recommend this restaurant with its old world charm.

In beautiful surrounds we were treated to fine food and wine . The carrot and scallop soup was amazing and so was the lamb cassoulet. The wine choice was incredible and the waiters so helpful and friendly

These guys take their wine list serious. Its got a sort of establishment meets groovy feel about it. The main room I was told, was once the grand foyer to one of the Citys first large hotels. The staff were friendly and the food is well priced. Great for lunch.

Two of us met for one of our regular lunch meetings and first impression was that there were not many diners - for a Wednesday lunch. On previous occasions a year or so ago we would have had difficulty getting a place. The waiter ( with a European accent ) was a bit over the top, and a little difficult... More

I chose this restaurant due to the good reviews, but I was disappointed. We went on a Friday night as a birthday celebration dinner and apart from some tables there for after work drinks the place was pretty empty. If you have any food intolerances DON'T go to this restaurant. The waiter put his head in his hand, shook his... More

Ate here with a couple of business colleagues. The acoustics aren't great, but the food was really lovely and service was very good. Fab place to stop for lunch in one of Melbourne's lovely laneways. Good value.

The restaurant has been very well covered by most reviews. The food is wonderful with good menu options. We had the duck, mushroom risotto and some sides. The sorbet desert was the perfect finish. The interior is tasteful and considered with the different types of furniture settings adding to the charm. The use of large mirrors to create illusionistic space... More

My wife and I visited Syracuse on a Friday night. When the risotto we both ordered took longer than the waiter expected (his standards, not ours) he apologised profusely and, with no prompting from us, claimed he would not charge us for the meals. When the time came to pay, he lived up to his word - there was no... More

What can I say. The food, service, wine list and atmosphere here is second to none. I took a friend who had never been and he stated that it was the most memorable meal he had had for years. Our waiter was fantastic. GO.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
