We love Movida, and the various Movida offshoots. We loved the tapas, all really delicious. One of the best places in Melbourne to eat: the setting may be casual, but the cuisine is top notch.

Melbourne is well known for its great Asian restaurants, which match the quality and variety of the ones you would find at Thailand, Japan, Cambodia, Vietnam, Korea, China, but in the case of this Spanish restaurant the food is far from the quality you would find in Spain. This restaurant was the only disappointment i had on my visit to... More

Wow, incredible food, great service full of atmosphere, just wonder if the good people of Melbourne realise how lucky they are !!.. yes I realise the reason but the 2 sittings per evening can cause delays and frustration

Lunched at MoVida Original with our party of 4 and it was a great fun experience. Our wait staff were efficient, knowledgable and lovely to deal with. The food was very enjoyable and despite not eating seafood I was surprised at the number of other choices. We enjoyed the Lamb Shoulder, Chorizo and Lentils, Asparagus, Olives, Croqueta, Queso, and Patatas.... More

Having had a couple of enjoyable visits to MoVida in Sydney we thought we would give the Melbourne original a try during a recent trip. We had a booking for the early seating (options are 6pm or 8pm) and arrived a couple of minutes early and were seated at a good table. We took a while perusing the menu and... More

Book ahead for the 2 dinner seatings or try your luck (go early) for a place at the bar to avoid disappointment. It was a treat from welcome to goodbye. Dizzy and his able helpers looked after us and their suggestions were delightful. Plenty here to sample whether you a vegetarian, fish lover, carnivore or a bit of everything. Choosing... More

I cannot fault the food. It's good but there were 5 of us that dined and our bill came up to over $300, which worked out to about $63 each. For that money all I ate was one piece of bread with olive oil, one small triangle of sheep milks cheese, quarter beef cheek, 4 asparagus spears, a small slice... More

On Melbourne on business and decided to revisit Movida. This is a restaurant that takes, and is worth, time. I checked out several tapas, then the beef tartar and finished with the dulce de leche. I've been here before and it's consistently good. The food Isnt that expensive and the sangria tastes. Movida's been around for a while but worth... More

When we opened the doors to MoVida in Hosier lane, Melbourne in 2003 no one knew what to expect. Here was this little bar on a graffiti covered cobbled lane near the

cathedral serving Spanish tapas and shared plates in a down lit room playing funky tunes.

It's the kind of place you can come in for a beer and a jamon croquetta at the bar and then move across to a table and share a plate of slow

braised lamb, some patatas a lo pobre and down some seriously good Spanish red wine.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
