Great Spanish food, nice surroundings, very good, fast service. When I go next I'll enjoy more of the tapas for variety, and less mains. Perhaps a little noisy if you're looking for a quiet evening, but that's just a roomful of people enjoying good food, drink & company. Excellent experience overall.

I have only been to MoVida for their afternoon tapas menu, but it was an absolute delight and I will be sure to return for their dinner menu soon. We went at about 4.30 or so in the afternoon when it was easy just to walk in and the restaurant was fairly quiet. The food was incredibly unique in both... More

With a friend who appreciates good food and wine. We asked if for a flow of several dishes selected by the chef with appropriate wines. Such a sophisticated response and my best dining experience since Le Train Bleu in Paris. Not knowing what was coming meant each plate was a surprise. Not cheap yet not exorbitant, my one big restaurant... More

Food was quite good with variety of tapas which five of us shared. Wine list was reasonable and not overly expensive. Service was quite rapid at times, while at other times it seemed we did not exist. Too much noise and zero atmosphere from my perspective. We left without bothering with coffee, dessert as there were no signs of service.

This would have to be of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne CBD. I have been numerous time and have never been disappointed. Even if you would like to indulge in sitting at the bar taking in the atmosphere and aromas sipping a Spanish sparkling you will feel like you are in Spain. Tapas style delicious tempters that will send your... More

Great food, drinks and service as always. The Chicken Tapa is still my absolute favourite. The poached quince desert is heavenly

Loved the croquettes! Wine list was sensational, as wells as the bread and olive oil. I'm a quail lover, however the movida birds were more chicken like than gamey.

Visited movies for cocktails on Friday night and were given a table and then left. We decided we might like some dessert before our cocktails and waited for someone to serve us so we could ask for a menu but nothing. I wandered over to the front desk to get a menu to be told to go back to my... More

Came here for dinner last Friday night. So many tapas choices with daily special, very difficult to choose which one to have. The house cold smoked Spanish mackerel was so delicious, full of flavor, can really taste the different elements within the small dish. We had to order another one after as it was so good. The quail was very... More

Description
When we opened the doors to MoVida in Hosier lane, Melbourne in 2003 no one knew what to expect. Here was this little bar on a graffiti covered cobbled lane near the

cathedral serving Spanish tapas and shared plates in a down lit room playing funky tunes.

It's the kind of place you can come in for a beer and a jamon croquetta at the bar and then move across to a table and share a plate of slow

braised lamb, some patatas a lo pobre and down some seriously good Spanish red wine.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
