Delicate, elegant and delicious. Sashimi is perfect, cha wan mushi taste like silk, noodles and rice dishes are delicious and the sukiyaki and shabu shabu is equally good! I've been here more than 100 times I reckon!

Thought the sushi was really nice, entrees were very tasty, but the selection of fish (especially on the sashimi plate) was definitely disappointing. I expected (and am used to) a lot more variety at expensive japanese restaurants. Wpuld give it a 3.5 but the green tea and black sesame icecream were so awesome for dessert it bumps my rating up... As a Japanese restaurant goes this is a firm favourite! Staff are fantastic and attentive without being in your face. Sushi is fantastic, clean and fresh as it should be and the sukiyaki is sensational!! Been a good few times now and be it take away or eat in the food is never compromised! Can't wait for my next visit!

We went with a Japanese lady who guided us through the menu and choices. She explained about the teapots that the tea was brought in, that they are very sought after, made by hand, are very expensive and you have to wait at least a year to purchase one after ordering. Fascinating. We also could have eaten on a tatami... More

I love going to Kenzan. Tonight I had a light as a feather prawn miso, delicate in flavour and delicious. I also had my favourite chicken teriyaki and steamed rice. The teriyaki was so delicious and quite a generous serving. The rice was superbly cooked. Staff are always very polite and attentive, bringing a complementary appetiser which is cold in... More

This restaurant offers exceptionally good Japanese food (fresh, good range, well cooked and very well presented). The dining area is clean and well appointed. The staff are as good as the food. They are attentive, polite, clean and efficient. The restaurant is busy and has an attractive buzz about it. Suggest you book early as it is very popular.

We went to Kenzan on Saturday night with our son while visiting him in Melbourne. Quality of the food was excellent - quality ingredients prepared by excellent chefs with great presentation. Service was efficient - maybe a little too much so, in that we did feel a little rushed. Prices were what you would expect at this level of restaurant.... More

I have been to this restaurant for many years located under the Sofitel Hotel and the experience has never been so good as it was last night. The waiting staff are amazingly attentive and friendly, the ambience was buzzy and the food exquisite. The sushi and sashimi was extraordinary. The fish was like silk and so very fresh and the... This is a classic Japanese restaurant where the sushi, sashimi and the tempura are all flawlessly executed. Only niggle was the wait for the food. It was near capacity on a cold Tuesday night and we had to wait 30 minutes or so for the mains. We spent the time ogling a certain Australian ex-treasurer who was clearly enjoying the... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
