We popped in for an early evening snack before the AFL match. We were treated to excellent steamed dumplings and sweet and sour pork with singapore noodles. Not enough really to stretch the kitchen but the quality of the dumplings was outstanding. Sufficiently so that we ordered a second round and were a little late for the match. Worth every... More

Were quick with our drink order but the wait staff then ignored us. Had to go and ask for someone to come and serve us Yum Cha as the only waitress on the floor kept bypassing us. The 4 items of food that we finally got were cold. Still ignored we decided to leave. Overpriced and ignored, will not return.

We chose a cosy window table on a cold wintry day. Our first visit here and eager to try the dum sum lunch menu, The menu was divided into steamed and fried dishes and we choose 3 - 4 of each. The fried white bait was superb in a light batter, with the fried squid pieces in a spicy blend... More

The food here is probably the worst food I have ever had. The dim sum was tasteless with seafood that was not fresh. The scallops with egg whites were extremely salty & the mushrooms with greens were oily & thickened gluggy sauce I would not go back There must be a high degree of MSG in the food in general

We went here because it was close to our accommodation and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent, very tasty. We had beef in black bean and it was very tender. The honey chicken was also excellent. Good service and reasonable prices. The only reason for not giving 5/5 was that we were under an aircon duct and also... More

While visiting Melbourne and staying at a Hotel close by, we happened upon this Chinese restaurant while walking by. We were able to walk in and be seated without any booking. Service for the night was excellent, food was excellent and pricing was good. We could not fault this restaurant and will go back again as well as tell others... More

This is my favourite Chinese eatery in Melbourne, and I am at a loss to see so few reviews. You don't have to book and the service is prompt and efficient. I try to visit this restaurant whenever I'm in Melbourne. The food is of the highest quality and always fresh. For a few bucks you can fill up big... More

As visitors to the city w chose this place because you couldn't get a seat without a booking anywhere else. It was about half full. The street presence belies the internal size, but the bar and service area right adjacent to the front door makes it cluttered and awkward with people entering and leaving. Service was brisk and business like... More

We stopped in for lunch and had tempura prawns, fried rice, BBQ pork buns, and chicken satay. All were good, fresh, and delightful. Service was fast and good. Nice place for a quick lunch.

Great restaurant on Little Bourke St. Not always packed, but a popular spot for Theatre goers. The food is fantastic and watch the head waiter take your order without a pen and pad.....and he get's everything right. My only pet hate is the bright lights but not uncommon in the same neighbourhood. Highly recommended, especially for a group booking.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
