I used to go to this restaurant once a week . I moved and I hadn't been there for 20 years. It is always a danger returning to and old favourite.....Is it still great?Do I get the same great vibe{should I be using the word "vibe"}. The answer is a resounding yes. It would be too easy too slip into... More

Monday night business dinner. Downstairs is small but packed with atmosphere. Italian speaking waiters who were friendly and very professional. We shared the calamari as an appetiser which was beautifully cooked and tender. Our mains - 2 colleagues had the special risotto - but only one prawn on each - it was delicious but false and deceptive advertising if you... More

We used to dine here regularly in the 90's, when this place was operated by the original owners. The food and service was always outstanding. We had tried it a few times since and always found it a shadow of the past. However consistently good reviews on trip advisor and recomendations of friends, convinced me to give it another chance.... From the door entry and greeting to our table it was obvious that Caffe e Cucina was going to be traditional. The table layouts are just perfect for couples or groups. A lovely decor and splendid bar with silver service waiters at your table immediately to assist in a drink choice while explaining the blackboard specials. The table menu is... More

Very nice atmosphere and friendly service but the food very average. The Linguine di Mare had lots of pasta and very little else. The muscle shells were big but had almost no content and a couple of scallops and prawns didn't do much to deliver a pleasant experience. Wine was OK but $260 for lunch for 2, the pub can... More

An institution in Chapel street, South Yarra end, Caffe e Cucina is like walking into a restaurant in Italy! You are greeted warmly in Italian at the door and throughout the night. Typical of this area, prices are upmarket: wine by the glass overages $15 but there's an extensive list. As we were eating late, after a movie, we only... More

Dear Sally D, Thank you so much for taking the time to review our restaurant. We greatly appreciate your extensive description of your Caffé e Cucina experience. Wonderful delicious real Italian dinner. Very small inside and noisy outside. We had a very nice dinner but it is a bit overpriced so once in a lifetime!

I have often passed this establishment walking down Chapel Street over the years when visiting from Sydney and have often meant to try it - and now I am kicking myself that I have left it so long. There was an error with my booking - which was promptly addressed without any fuss - and after a short wait at... More

Staying in Chapel Street

Neighborhood Profile
Chapel Street
Seek and ye shall find! Prahran is a treasure hunter’s paradise of vintage stores, upscale boutiques and emporiums. Chapel Street is a one-stop shop with specialty stores selling just about everything. The famous Chapel Street Bazaar has so many curious and vintage knick-knacks that you will feel as if you're in a huge and busy museum. By contrast, at the northern end of Chapel Street, South Yarra and Windsor cater to high-end designer labels and exclusive boutiques. The community flocks to Prahran’s organic markets as a Saturday ritual, while art and film students leaf through vinyl LPs on Greville Street. The gay community also has a strong presence here. Prahran’s heritage buildings like the Reads Emporium and Prahan arcade offer a grand sense of scale and history. No matter your interest, come feel the pulse of one of Melbourne’s most loved precincts.
