We were staying in South Yarra and were looking for an upmarket Italian restaurant. There is no shortage of every day Italian restaurants in Melbourne but we were looking for something special. What appealed about Caffe e Cucina is that it had an established old world feel. No glass and chrome modern fit out. It felt like the restaurant you... More

Sitting under the infra red heaters, soaking in their warmth and the warmth of the staff and the food whilst watching the world pass by at Caffe e Cucina is a tonic for the soul. The special pasta of the day was a magnificent crab pasta which held all of the flavours of the crab and was presented in a... More

We went for dinner without booking but were welcomed and found a table upstairs despite the place being very busy. Very friendly Italian waiters produced mouth watering menus and they did not disappoint. The atmosphere was very reminiscent of Italy, noisy, excitable and fun. Our food was delicious and the choice of wines appropriate to the dishes we ordered.

This is a “must do” of mine when in Melbourne. The service is reliably some of the best in this city of cuisine. Sip a Negroni aperitif, enjoy the fresh bread with olive oil and balsamic. A lunchtime decision of two entrées, with an accompanying dry Italian rosé, worked well: calamari on arugula with a really lovely dressing; then tagliatelle... More

They serve really good Italian food. I had the baked seafood linguine and it was delicious. We also ordered a tiramisu and creme brûlée and while both were tasty, I preferred the brûlée. Our booking got mixed up and we were served free champagne for having to wait 10-15 minutes. Service was incredible at this place. On top of that,... More

We had a fantastic time last Friday night! The food from the entree, main course and desert were delicious. The wine selection is great and reasonably priced. The service attentive and very friendly. We will be back!

Monday night business dinner. Downstairs is small but packed with atmosphere. Italian speaking waiters who were friendly and very professional. We shared the calamari as an appetiser which was beautifully cooked and tender. Our mains - 2 colleagues had the special risotto - but only one prawn on each - it was delicious but false and deceptive advertising if you... More

We used to dine here regularly in the 90's, when this place was operated by the original owners. The food and service was always outstanding. We had tried it a few times since and always found it a shadow of the past. However consistently good reviews on trip advisor and recomendations of friends, convinced me to give it another chance.... Staying in Chapel Street

Neighborhood Profile
Chapel Street
Seek and ye shall find! Prahran is a treasure hunter’s paradise of vintage stores, upscale boutiques and emporiums. Chapel Street is a one-stop shop with specialty stores selling just about everything. The famous Chapel Street Bazaar has so many curious and vintage knick-knacks that you will feel as if you're in a huge and busy museum. By contrast, at the northern end of Chapel Street, South Yarra and Windsor cater to high-end designer labels and exclusive boutiques. The community flocks to Prahran’s organic markets as a Saturday ritual, while art and film students leaf through vinyl LPs on Greville Street. The gay community also has a strong presence here. Prahran’s heritage buildings like the Reads Emporium and Prahan arcade offer a grand sense of scale and history. No matter your interest, come feel the pulse of one of Melbourne’s most loved precincts.
