Amazing vegetarian food, faux meat and vegetables cooked in a variety of ways. Have been here many times with friends and family. Cheerful wait staff, food comes out reasonably fast. Always a favourite now.

Tucked away on the third floor of a building. Wondered where we were going when we hopped in the lift. Very busy restaurant with so many amazing choices on the menu - making meal choice difficult. Very happy with our choices and food was amazing. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Being recommended by friends, we tried this place a couple of years ago and since then just keep foing back for more. Plenty of choices, lot's to try. Nicely cooked. Not the usual Chinese cooking (Malaysian / Singaporean); it's a different taste. The brand is highly regarded in East/Southeast Asia. Highly recommended.

I bought a strictly vegetarian friend to eat here who was visiting from out of state. She was totally blown away by the choice of vegetarian food on the menu. The menu needs some photos or better descriptors so that one knows what to expect. The lift leading to the restaurant from the street sometimes does stop on the wrong... More

I booked in at Gong De Linn for a work function for 15 people and we were sat at a big round table which was perfect for us. We were a very rowdy bunch and I felt bad for the staff and other customers so I will apologise for that! The food was absolutely delicious, we all loved our food... More

Came here specifically to try to sweet and sour "pork", and was very impressed. The texture was different to what I'm used to, a bit more lumpy than usual mock meats but the flavour of the sauce was excellent. Pineapple and red/green peppers still crisp and not over cooked. Also had fried noodles with veggies which took a very long... More

The food here is some of the best vegan food I have tried in Melbourne. I have taken several of my carnivore friends here and they have all been really impressed. The service is efficient and the layout is clean and comfortable. Highly recommended for all vegans, vegetarians and carnies.

I was in Melbourne with a vegetarian friend who was VERY happy when we walked by this place. We went there intending to try the dessert place next door after. We never made it, we were too full. We started with steamed dumplings. Freakin yum. My friend is of Italian origins and is a big fan of eggplant, and ordered... More

Gong de Lin can be slightly hard to locate when you go there for the first time but it is definitely worth a visit. The menu is huge, with many pages, and is full of yummy Chinese style vegan options. There are cute booths which you can share with a group of up to 6 people. And if you're sitting... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
