This restaurant is very reminiscent of those in Paris with small tables and lots of patrons! The menu is a little limited and not as authentic French as it was st my last visit. (Eg.... I don't see linguini as French even though it looked and smelt good at the opposite table ). That said the duck liver pâté, the... More

Have eaten here many times and the food is always of an excellent high quality. Prawn bisque, bouillabaisse, goat cheese soufflé, scallops, in fact all entrees are worth a try. Main courses also very very good but do try the confit duck or the risotto, or steak for meat lovers. Salads are simple but great. Desserts-one of the beer creme... More

The four of us were going to We Will Rock You at the Regent Theatre last Saturday night and were surprised to get a booking at Bistro D'Orsay. We advised the Maitre 'd that we need to have finished dinner by 7:45 which the restaurant duly complied with comfortably, without us seeming rushed. The food was excellent, the wine list... More

Four of us had dinner here prior to going over the road to We Will Rock You. We were running a little late but the restaurant was very understanding and managed to get our meal out in plenty of time. Our meals included Coq au Vin, Rabbit Pithivier and Barramundi. All the meals were excellent. I would recommend this restaurant... More

Service was 5 star, food 4 plus, but very small and packed in. We enjoyed our lunch and would certainly recomend and return.

Small restaurant with good service and very tasty food. The place is small however the food packs the punch of great French food. Rich flavours well cooked with fantastic sauces. Well worth the visit.

Just got in from a flight and needed a snack. Arrived Friday night and found this great place. Good ambiance and great service. Steak tartare was great. Just how my mother made it. Quick friendly and efficient service.

Have been Dinning at D'Orsay for many years. A tiny French restaurant nestled in under the Athenaeum and across the road from the Regent. Can be a bit tight for space, but the food and service never fails. Meals are distinctly French; rich, intensive flavours. This time, the highlights were the cheese plate which included a wonderful double cream blue,... More

We initially were booked in for a pre show meal in a restaurant across the road but it was closed without notice. We hastened to the Bistro D'Orsay hoping for a table bearing in mind we had no reservation. We were warmly welcomed by the manager who was quick to seat us and we had a wonderful meal, shared duck... The food and wine as delicious. I would return to Melbourne just to eat here again. I'm very lucky that I'm going back to Melbourne again in a couple of weeks because I will make it my mission to eat here again. Service was excellent with friendly and welcoming staff.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
