We went for an anniversary lunch because it was a special occasion and we have enjoyed Bistro D'Orsay in the past. We honeymooned in Paris many years ago and dining here makes us feel like we're in Paris! We were warmly greeted and the service was excellent. We shared the prawn bisque to start, then enjoyed the rabbit pie and... More

Visited Bistrot D'Orsay before seeing a show across the road at the Regent Theatre. We had not booked but we were quickly seated and drink orders taken. We enjoyed a champagne cocktail with complimentary French stick and butter before our mains arrived. The potato gnocchi with field mushrooms was delicious and the hazelnuts and truffle oil a lovely addition. The... More

Went for a friends birthday. Was my second time here. Food is expensive but you pay for what you get I believe. The food is of high quality and standard. The eye fillet steak was cooked to perfection and my creme brûlée was sublime. My partners soufflé was also delicious. Service was also excellent as you'd expect at a place... More

Three of us went to this restaurant on a Saturday night, so it was full. We ordered the goat's cheese soufflé, the stake tartare and an entree size bouillabaisse. The soup and the tartare were very nice. The soufflé was indifferent. For mains we ordered the lamb shoulder and my wife ordered the rabbit pie. The mains were OK, except... More

Recently had a lunch date at this bistro - my first visit so wasn't sure what to expect. The food was delicious - the goat's cheese souffle for entree was excellent, and the potato gnocchi with mushrooms absolutely delicious - well seasoned and fragrant from the mushrooms. Would happily recommend!

First time, pre-theatre dinner. So impressed with the ambience, the service and the food. Coq au vin was amazing. Will definitely be back.

Dinner before theatre - wonderful service, quality of food is not disappointing. Cosy, warm and intimate, can be romantic or as we did - a lovely dinner with teenage son before show to set up a fantastic night. Linguini with seafood, my favourite!

Visited Bistro d'Orsay again after a two year hiatus on a recent visit to Melbourne. The ambience has not changed, neither has the warm welcome. The gnocchi was a trifle rubbery but well sauced. The bouillabaisse was sensational and the luscious caramelised pear tarte tatin was great. The wine list was well thought out. All in all a great night.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
