I'm not a fan of restaurants begging for our business from the sidewalk, it was lucky for them we had chosen to eat there before arriving. I like to look at a menu in peace and see that my family will find something on it before sitting down. After being offered an outside table right next to the smokers sitting... More

The waiter was very friendly and chatty. We all enjoyed our meals and the free bottle of wine went down well.

While the food is great decent sizes and tasty with a good price point for what they serve the service is pretty standard for hardware lane. Had the service been there we would of spent more. A touch dissapointing.

Visited this restaurant with my daughter last year and I should have reviewed it then but I didn't, ate there a couple times and the food and service was fantastic. The floor manager was so efficient and friendly made for a really good experience. Just recently visited Melbourne again for our 4 day little jaunt and made our way to... More

Poor service, pre-made, cold and reheated food. Don't be fooled by the free drinks and appetisers as all you will get is flat soft drink and tiny pieces of buttered bread. We were left very disappointed!

Came here for a relaxing dinner, service was prompt and excellent with very friendly staff. Good choice of options on menu. A tad expensive for what you get but food was nice.

Isn't it always the way. You find a great place on the day you fly out. Go here if you want a great coffee. I also enjoyed the chicken burger for lunch and wasn't disappointed. Great service and do yourself a favour and come see the team down hardware lane

Had a small celebration meal with work colleagues at Max in Hardware Lane last night and totally enjoyed the venue. Love how they have generous space both outside to absorb the street atmosphere or quieter inside options. Welcomed with a smile, menu options generous and individual dietary requirements easily accommodated by friendly, unobtrusive and efficient staff. Food for the whole... More

I am always a little concerned with menus that go on for many pages. It has to be difficult preparing that many options freshly. Ordered a spaghetti dish and the pasta was thick and soggy, well over cooked. The staff were attentive and prepared another dish for me. The pork belly was good. The kangaroo was very good! Overall the... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
