I have been to this café on previous trips to Melbourne and always found it warm and inviting and the food and service reliable. I visited here again recently and found the girl who served me very rude. I sat outside and waited to be served. I watched the girl polish cutlery and walk around looking busy but not doing... More

Whats not to love about a place that has fabulous coffee every time you visit. Dont mention those cakes, or I will need to visit AGAIN. Very small venue but super-snug and cosy inside - a must every time we head to CBD. Friendly service. Tables in sometimes breezey arcade. Table service with drinkable wines and a variety of cafe... I came here for a quick lunch with my family. The place is small and maybe not the best place to put any stroller around the restaurant. However i find everything here are wonderful. The people are nice, the food are nice also the coffee also great. Keep up the good service, you guys are great.

It is on the corner of Block Arcade and Little Collins Street and it some atmosphere and good coffee. There are tables in the outdoor area as well.

Other GFDF readers will understand the annoyance of cafe and restaurants stating they are gluten and/or dairy free when all they have is gluten free bread. No help when wanting something with coffee other than bread and jam. This cafe has genuine offerings and lovely friendly service.

Not usually one to have a chocolate croissant ... but this place has the best I've ever had, valrhona chocolate. Great coffee and service and the space is very European and cosy. Went back the next morning to get another croissant take away before my flight.

I can vouch for the affogato and waffles at Caffe e Torta, both were top quality! The ambience is also one that you would expect of the best laneway cafes in Melbourne, very cosy and warm in the winter. Service was also very prompt and mostly friendly.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
