We decided on trying out this place as we had walked past on many occasions. To set the context, my wife isn't a big seafood fan, me on the hand, I love it! And would eat it all day if I could! We decided to try Tank and found it to be pretty good. It cost us $25 for calamari... More

I can't believe the positive reviews of this outlet. To me, when a place describes itself as a "fish and chippery" and charges prices that are way above average, it should produce something pretty special. Instead, I found that the fish was thin and bland, the batter left an unpleasant taste in my mouth all afternoon, the potato cake was... More

The fish is always impossibly fresh, and amazing. It isn't your 5 star place, but the fish, rice and salads make up for that for sure! If you are a fish lover, try this and you in no way will be disappointed =D

This is a very good stop if you want fish and chips. The fish was excellent, the chips well done and the scallops were excellent. It is a bot more pricey than you corner fish and chip shop, but the ambiance, quality of service and mean makes it more than worthwhile.

There is nothing like a fresh fish catch of the day (Blue Grenadier in my case) that is perfectly grilled at a very reasonable price. It's one of the best seafood places that I've ever eaten - but by far the best value overall. I highly recommend Tank - ate there three times in a five day period - couldn't... More

We came here based on a friend's recommendation. The platter for 4 was good value for money. The service was good and the staff bothered to explain about the fish and the options available. Love the decor which was instagram friendly. :) Most importantly, the food was fresh and good.

I'm really disappointed with my meal at the Emporium food court today. There was a black worm (maybe a centipede) in my quinoa salad still moving around. When I took my plate to the counter to show the staff, they just looked at me completely stunned. I don't blame them. It was a horrible thing to see and to think... More

We re-visited the Tank Fish and Chippery in Lygon Street and must say, the meal was much better prepared and in good time than our previous experience. (I think the Boss was there!!) Notwithstanding this - all was good. The batter was nice and light and the fish not over cooked. The fries were well done, a good golden brown... More

If you crave fresh seafood day or night, look no further. Since we usually stay at the Quality Hotel Downtowner on Lygon & Queensberry, it's only a short 5 min walk away ! Our favourite must be the "Old school fish & chips" but the chef's special of the day rarely disappoints. Pay cash up front at the cashier's counter,... More

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighborhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighborhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
