This is my first real 100% choosing a restaurant purely by TripAdvisor rating and proximity. I chose The French Brasserie on the promise of a French experience and a high rating at the time of 22nd place in Melbourne on Trio Advisor. I was not disappointed and at first impression the restaurant has an impressive air about it with extremely... More

This was without doubt the best meal that we've had in Melbourne. The food was out of this world, service was perfect, and the atmosphere was vibrant without being too loud. Regarding the food we noticed that they really cater for everyone with steak, chicken, fish and vegetarian options. We'll definitely be back.

Has a fantastic evening with my wife and a friend here. Restaurant was fully booked and had a great ambience without being noisy, the staff were friendly and attentive and the food was fantastic. The only thing I would mention is that wine poured for me was consistently less than others at the table....made me a little jealous! All in... More

We went to this restaurant and at the beginning the Manager/Owner was very friendly. However then things went wrong. I ordered an entrée & soup and my wife ordered the minute steak. The waitress completely forgot my entrée! My wife's minute steak was nothing like normal thin minute steak it was 2 scrag ends of supposedly fillet steak which tasted... More

We booked ahead and went on a friday evening for dinner. Service was ok but we came for the meal which was good. Won't recommend to order the banquette bread with raddish as it was complimentary but without the raddish. Onion soup was good but too much cheese which makes it more cheesy stuck on the spoon. Overall good experience... More

The five course degustation with matching wines was just wonderful. The food was beautiful, subtle tastes and just perfectly matched with thoughtful wine selections. The staff were excellent and really cared. The owner was very hospitable and just capped off a perfect evening.

We went on a Thursday night before seeing a show at Her Majesty Theatre and the food was sensational. We had garlic snails, French onion soup and Camembert cheese for entire. For main we had steak and fish which was also very good. The staff are very friendly and accomodating and the extensive wine list is great. This is one... More

We were so pleased we picked this restaurant on our short stay in Melbourne. The staff is friendly and accommodating AND immaculate. It is a small restaurant in a curious location. We needed to ask for help in finding the alley that leads to the restaurant. But, it is worth the effort Everything we had was delicious and creatively fine-tuned... More

We found the French Brasserie approximately three years ago and loved it so much the first time we always wanted to go back when in Melbourne. Once again on return the Service was second to none the Entrees Mains and Desserts were 10/10. I would encourage anyone that's looking for an Excellent French Restaurant with Superb Customer Service and Sublime... More

Loved the atmosphere of the place! It was a busy Friday night but all the staff were really friendly and took great care of us. The owner/manager(?) was funny and warm. The food was lovely (would recommend the bouillabaisse). It felt like a great, unpretentious dining experience. I would definitely go back!

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
