The French Brasserie made us feel we were in Paris. Its location, venue and welcome all conjured up some of the lovely brasseries we've visited in France. A champagne aperitif, and then a serious study of the menu. Rillettes for her and a stuffed octopus chef's special for me, which we both followed with the roast flathead. All excellent. We... More

I had the best Cassoulet ever, we had no booking, arrived just before opening at five to six and were treated beautifully. The meal was outstanding.

We visited this bijou restaurant for my partners 60th birthday lunch. It has been a little while since we have hit the perfect combination of superb food, excellent ambience and perfect service. From the stuffed canard to the citron tart, very French and flawless. Real French cuisine with those "to die for" sauces are becoming increasingly hard to experience. Well... More

We enjoyed a lovely evening, selecting the degustation option with matched wines, it was beautiful, very French and the staff were very friendly as well. We enjoyed the fact that staff are actually French speaking, unusual for Melbourne. Would recommend this for anyone looking for a great French restaurant. We also appreciated that it was well heated being winter in... More

Out for a date night with my wife we decided to try a different French restaurant in Melbourne. Set down a secluded alley way. The staff at "The French Brasserie" were very warm and welcoming upon our arrival, whilst they did come over to check on us through out the night it wasn't overbearing at all like some restaurants but... From the minute one enters this restaurant one can see why the French Brasseries is so popular. Its a warm, comfortable place built on two levels and with an open view kitchen at the end of the ground floor. Just outside of the restaurant proper there is a small foyer where you can enjoy drinks and a few bar dishes.... More

We wanted a magnificent meal, and The French Brasserie delivered in spades. Superb cuisine, marvellous service, and an interesting semi industrial venue (in a good way!). What's not to like about delicious French food so beautifully presented - almost like being in La Belle France. We shall certainly return the next time we are in Melbourne.

Amazing food. We got the snails and a 'special' baked Camembert as entree, and flathead fish and duck as a main. Strongly recommend the duck, close to the best Iv ever had. We also had a the 'special' champaign cocktail which was fantastic. The service was okay not quite what you might expect for fine dining. We were continually being... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
