Fine Neopolitan cuisine, friendly wait service. The two of us had "Pappardelle alla Campagnola" described as "House made pappardelle with pork and fennel sausage, assorted mushrooms and a seeded mustard and cream sauce" and a gnocci with a kind of lamb ragu. These were distinctive and well-made dishes.

My friends and I rented an apartment across from the restaurant and having not organised any dinner, decided to go to Scugnizzo and get a pizza to go. The waitress greeted us begrudgingly and took our order then instructed us to take a seat on the sofa near the kitchen. It was almost their closing time so there weren't many... More

This visit was great. When I arrived I was warmly welcomed. When I asked for a wine recommendation they came back with a Savignon Blanc which I normally dislike but I was offered a taste with the promise it will be different and yes it was different. The other recommendations regarding the wine were equally good. I believe this was... More

I ate there with some friends. Can't really complain, the wait staff were nice but don't have a clue. The pappardelle pasta was as good as a supermarket bought brand and the hyped pork sausage, mushroom sauce was like average homemade. After rpt he mains, the female wait person rushed around clearing glasses and plates, then belatedly asked if we... More

Having a voucher from the Entertainment book we tried to source a pleasant restaurant for 'date night' as hubby and I were in the city at the same time. The reviews looked good so we took our chance and rocked up without a booking. No snooty "do you have a booking?" Just a warm welcome and an invitation to peruse... More

We walked past this restaurant and took a moment to window gaze and see the cheerful vibe and some impressive looking fare going to the tables. So we decided we would dine there ourselves. We arrived the next night at a busy time and following a short wait secured a table to then enjoy the very delicious fare with our... More

I don't know how this restaurant has received any good reviews. There's no telling for bad taste. Very average bruschetta, fish and the worst risotto I've ever seen or tasted. One waiter in the whole restaurant. We left without considering dessert or a tip.

We had a last minute dinner booking for 4 (Friday 19Feb) to entertain business guests from overseas and chose Scugnizzo. We have heard great reviews about this restaurant and we were not disappointed! Service was very friendly and we were given a nice table for 4 towards the back. Even though the restaurant was full, we could easily have a... More

The good - location is nice in one of the alleys, restaurant is beautifully set up, staff was warm upon arrival and calamari appetizer was terrific. The not so good - despite restaurant being only one third full the waiter was in a permanent rush, the main courses took forever and were disappointing. Risotto was subpar and the farfalle pasta... Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
