Tucked away out of sight of Melbournes hustle and bustle is the wonderfully delightful Portello Rosso, an intimate Spanish tapas restaurant. Food was wonderful and service was great! Only one tiny and extremely minor suggestion would be to remove the bay seating area at the bottom of the staircase! Did not feel at ease with high volumes of traffic (customer... More

We gravitate back to this 'alittle hard to find' tapas restaurant. The Chef's selection is our go to when we are feeling like a big tapas night. It's a very generous serving and great quality and whilst we have been here quite a few times there is enough diversity in the selections that it doesn't feel the same on each... More

Recently stumbled across this restaurant and I am so glad we did! Such yummy Tapas and Sangria. If we had more time we would have been back for sure.

We came here as my lovely wife is coeliac and we wanted a good gluten free restaurant. We were not disappointed. The seafood paella was delicious and the staff friendly and attentive. Be aware that you will pay for your bottle of wine, so maybe pre dinners drinks somewhere else and then a glass with your tapas or paella. Will... More

Portello Rosso is about as archetypal as a lane way Melbourne restaurant can get. It's situated half way down Warburton lane, which runs off Little Bourke between Elizabeth and Queen. It's a small place, but not overly cramped. There is a large upright share table in the middle of the main area; other tables are spread around a number of... More

we came here for a private function a few weeks back, so was thrilled to find my way back again for a smaller dinner. The zuchinni and corn fritters are THE best; the BBQ lamb ribs delicious and the pork crackle divine.

We fancied some tapas last night and came across this restaurant. What a find. Beautiful rustic charm with amazing staff who had us laughing away. The food was amazing the pork belly and zucchini corn fritters being my favourite. The only negative is the price, it isn't cheap but it hasn't put us off, we'll be back. Thank you guys... More

Midweek fully booked for second seating - reservations were possible for 3 at early seating just after 6pm. Comfortably seated at mezzanine level the restaurant filled up quickly. Starting off with jamon & manchego cheese croquettes - light & tasty. Soon followed with melt in mouth slow braised sticky BBQ lamb ribs. Crispy pork belly with almond & garlic purée,... More

Was lucky that we came across this place - it's hidden up a side lane. Definitely worth hunting it out though - food was fantastic - lots of really tasty tapas - good variety. Huge choice of wine - though mainly European. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Can't understand why it is not further up the list in terms... More

You walk in via one of Melbourne's many laneways to a sliding door leading to small restaurant. The ground floor is small and there is a mezzanine level with further seating. We were seated upstairs in a booth which was nice and cozy - except we were on a business lunch so cozy was not quite what we were after.... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
