Just had to go back to this pub .. sat in a booth upstairs and taste tested different ales. Excellent food .. loved the salt & pepper squid!

Wednesdays are burger special days. $20 for a really generous tasty burger (choice of Angus beef, southern chicken, pulled pork or vegetarian) with nice skinny fries and a pint or wine is good value. Nice cosy pub atmosphere.

This is an unexpected great English Pub in the heart of Melbourne. The food was good English style pub food of a high quality. The prices are another bonus. Good food, plenty of it for a good price. The real bonus though was the atmosphere. Hard to break it down but just felt comfortable. The beef and Guinness pie was... More

We walked up on a Saturday night for a table of eight. Upstairs and we fitted in. The food was fast and brilliant. Numerous draught beers. Atmosphere took us back to England. If you are on a budget but like good food, I can highly recommend this pub.

Old English style pub with good pub food at reasonable prices. Nice selection of beers on tap. Good value for money. Some specials every night but the steak sandwich was hard to beat.

The bar has a good variety of dishes - though typically bar menu. The prices are low, and you have to order your meals at the bar.

Looked like a cozy place from the outside, and we were not disappointed. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and fabulous food. We had the salt and pepper squid and lamb shank, which were both cooked to perfection. A great place to spend a winter evening in Melbourne- we will be back.

I just had a roast beef lunch with yummy roast potatoes, veggies and Yorkshire pudding. I had forgotten how good a roast lunch is. I am not a beer drinker, but had one of the many beers on offer in the Elephant and Wheelbarrow. The person behind the bar was very kind to let me try a couple of beers... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
